And though there has been much concern and speculation regarding the identities of the passengers on the flight, here’s one piece of information that might make you heave a sigh of relief for now.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), “there have been no reports of Singaporeans on board the flight”.

The spokesperson also mentioned that the Singapore government, which has expressed sorrow over this incident, has been “monitoring the situation closely and was in contact with the Chinese authorities”.

“As MU 5735 had taken off from Kunming and was headed for Guangzhou, we have also reached out to Singaporeans in Yunnan and Guangzhou who have e-registered with the MFA,” the spokesperson added.

Currently, search and rescue operations are taking place.

However, according to a rescue official, the plane has apparently been “completely disintegrated”.
