About a week ago, it was announced that NSmen and NSFs will be getting free public transport tomorrow (30 June 2017) as long as they’re in uniform.
The Internet went apeshit for obvious reasons.
I mean, free transport only when you’re in your uniform? Are they only thanking recruits who would be booking out that day?
Today, a better freebie was announced, and 谢天谢地 this is a freebie that has a tad more common sense.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the People’s Association (PA) just announced that there would be discounts in almost 160 hawkers and retail shops, starting from July. The amount of discount isn’t revealed yet.
The exact stalls and shops will be listed in the PA website from tomorrow (30 June 2017) onward.
The ratio of how many hawker stalls to how many retail shops hasn’t been disclosed as well. However, to spot participating outlets, you’ll see a “We Support You in NS” sticker on the shop.
So far, it’s only revealed that the hawker stalls and shops are in areas such as Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Jurong West, Chinatown, Woodlands, Redhill, Alexandra and Marine Parade—in other words, in the heartlands.
And here’s the thing: you don’t need to wear your uniform to get the discount. You just need to show your 11B, though I think that as long as it’s any male who has a Singapore accent and (unfortunately) look old enough, it’s good enough.
And as usual, the objective of this is to thank NSmen who have contributed to the nation.
You know what? I really hope that Uber and Grab would remember that we’ve kept the country safe. It would have been a great publicity campaign that can earn them many brownie points #helloUberGrabfreeridesplease?
