In a report by Today Online yesterday, an emergency meeting was called by the Office of Student Affairs, and a decision was made to cancel the orientation camp. However, the annual fundraising event, Rag and Flag, as well as other freshman inauguration ceremonies, and faculty and department briefings will still go on.

“We are deeply disappointed that some of our students have flouted the rules and behaved in an unacceptable manner in organising freshmen activities.”

While some netizens agreed school’s decision to cancel the camps, some students from the school agreed otherwise, citing that it is not a permanent solution to the impending problem and that the issue will only be swept under the carpet.

“NUS cancelling it will not resolve the issue. Thorough investigations and finding out who are the “organizers” of such uncalled for sexual related games is more of THE MAIN ACTION ITEM TO DO. So is setting the right cadence for future events. Otherwise, history will repeat itself and whatever your school says in future holds no credence what so ever.”

“Those whom decided to cancel the orientation are extremists. You allow the sexual games to prevail for decades and you simply cancel the whole orientation instantly.”

The acting Minister of Education (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung, has also spoken up against the incident.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has commented that they are currently conducting an investigation regarding the issue, and will be taking strong disciplinary action against those who are found responsible.

“We are deeply disappointed that some of our students have flouted the rules and behaved in an unacceptable manner in organising freshmen activities.”
