Okay, There’s a Wiki Page Listing Down All the Floods in S’pore Since 2010

Singapore is known for three things—good food, MRT disruptions and the pesky haze.

Wait, I think its safe to say that we can add flash floods to the list as well.

With Monday’s flooding incident, there is a total of 34 flood occurrences since 2010, with a period of 4 flood-free years (really, meh?), according to this Wiki page, “Floods in Singapore”.

Just like the Wiki page of “MRT Breakdowns, the “Floods in Singapore” page goes into great detail, with a dedicated point for each occurrence.

Killer floods

After some light reading on the site, I found out that people actually died from the flash floods.

On 1 June 2011, there was flooding at the junction of Novena Square and a boy fell into a 1.2m-deep drain despite it being guarded by a railing.

According to the page, the boy is believed to have stepped through a break in the railing at the flooded junction of Martaban Road and Minbu Road.

The currents were too strong and it swept him away.

On 28 April 2013, (actually, it happened on 27 April), a strong wind uprooted a tree, killing a driving instructor.

The student who was in the driver’s seat escaped with just minor cuts and abrasions.

Current situation

While the recent flash flood might have caused more laughs than hysteria, we can’t deny the fact that it is a major inconvenience.

And with better drainage system by 2019, we can only hope that there won’t be another flood.

And if you have trouble sleeping, you can always read the aforementioned page!

Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
