You’re probably aware of Wang Talu, also known as Darren Wang, from the Taiwanese romance movie Our Times (我的少女時代). He played the male protagonist, TaiYu.

Despite winning the hearts of girls who love Our Times, it seemed his heart only belonged to Joey Chua, a Malaysian singer-actress.

Or so people thought.

His latest Instagram move has sparked rumours that he and Joey have broken up.

I guess they weren’t each other’s Xiao Xing Yun (小幸运) after all.

Darren Wang & Joey Chua No Longer Following Each Other on Instagram

Nowadays, the first indication that a couple has broken up is through their Instagram following.

As it stands, Darren and Joey have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Netizens did some internet sleuthing and discovered that Joey had deleted all photos taken with him.

However, both are still following one another on Weibo at the time of writing.

Joey’s Cryptic Post

While the rumours have yet to be confirmed, Joey posted a suspicious Instagram post on 24 June.

She posted a series of selfies with the caption, “Posting a photo with my original straight hair! The most authentic self ~

“From the 20th of last month to today, so many things have happened to me. I feel so special and so incredible. This month has been so long.

“Thank you to everyone around me who loves me. Without pain, I wouldn’t know what happiness is.

“I’m 29, and my life is just beginning.”

Eh, isn’t that obvious?

What About Darren?

On the other hand, Darren has not posted anything that would point to a break-up.

A post from 22 January 2021 with Joey inside is still on his Instagram account.

Notably, the post features actress Wang Zi Wen as well.

A post he made with Joey on 9 May has also yet to be deleted.

But of course, in the internet world, two months is considered 200 years in real life, so that post is 200 years old.

Obvious Romance

The pair met on the set of the Chinese reality show A Journey for Love in 2021. In May 2021, they were spotted kissing one another in public. That same year, Joey was spotted sitting on Darren’s lap while sightseeing in Beijing.

Despite these apparent displays of affection, the pair only confirmed the dating rumours last year.

In December 2022, Darren made a Weibo post tagging Joey, captioning it, “Is there any sport my girlfriend can’t do well in?”

Darren’s manager told Taiwanese media that the couple’s relationship was stable.

In January 2023, Joey even brought Darren to her family home in Johor Bahru to spend the Lunar New Year.

She had not been home in four years.

Documenting the trip via video, she took the opportunity to introduce Darren to her parents.

How They Got Together

The pair only confirmed their relationship when they took part in the Chinese reality show My Happy Life in end-2022.

In the show, Darren wrote a letter to Joey saying, “It’s because I have you that I now have a family member.”

He said his family wasn’t very affectionate with him, but Joey had made him realise “the good a family can bring”.

On Joey’s end, she noted that she didn’t have many friends when she first moved to China.

However, Darren was always there for her.

Even when he had to return to Taiwan, and they could not meet for two months, the pair gave each other life updates via text.

Finally, Darren asked her if she “wanted to be in a relationship” with him.

While she initially thought Darren was joking, Joey was moved by his actions and said yes.

Before Joey’s Cryptic Post

In May 2023, the pair were still seen being affectionate towards one another.

Taiwanese paparazzi reported Darren and Joey holding hands on 9 May, with Darren even feeding Joey later at a restaurant.

On 10 May, Oriental Daily reported that the pair were seen buying bubble tea in Taipei.

Darren was even seen holding Joey’s bag for her.

While Joey’s Instagram post states that “too many things have happened since the 20th of last month” (which could be 20 May), Darren has not said anything about their relationship.

Since 20 May, he has only posted three posts.

On 23 May, he posted a series of photos of himself with no caption.
