Parking Warden Politely Handed Summons Ticket with 2 Hands Even As Offender Scolded Him

“Always respond to negativity with kindness.”

That’s a piece of advice my grandfather gave me when I was seven years old, and I’ve been using it as a guiding principle in my life ever since.

So, when my boss scolded me for half an hour for coming half a minute late today, I told him he looked handsome.

I don’t think my grandfather fully explained to me how this kindness thing works.

And sometimes, you don’t even have to be kind; just be polite.

Parking Warden Politely Handed Summons Ticket with 2 Hands Even As Offender Scolded Him

The sight of a parking warden is not a pleasant one for most motorists in the country.

Whether that means we’re constantly breaking the rules on the road or just have something against the men in white and blue, it’s hard to say.

For one biker who was penalised for illegal parking, it made his blood boil.

A video of the aggrieved biker berating a parking warden has made its way around the internet.

The video was shared on the Facebook page Roads.sg on Tuesday (9 Feb).

Right from the start of the video, it’s clear that the biker was not pleased, to say the least.

The rider had stopped along a road with single yellow zigzag line, but in his view, he had returned to his vehicle just in time, and the parking warden was being unnecessarily stringent.

“Eh, I here already what, what you want [me] to do?” he said. “You blind ah? Eh you blind or what eh?”

As the biker continues to challenge him, the parking warden just keeps calm and doesn’t respond.

This, of course, further enrages the biker.

“Eh, you deaf ah?” he said.

Infuriated by the warden’s deafening silence, the rider goes on to insult the parking warden.

“Stupid or what you?” he asks, presumably rhetorically.

The parking warden either has ice in his veins or something very interesting on his device, because he still doesn’t respond.

He then zooms on the warden’s nametag and once again pleads his case, saying he wasn’t too far from where he parked, and called the warden an idiot.

At this point, after being called blind, deaf, stupid, and an idiot, most of us would probably combust into flames if we didn’t respond.

But instead of retaliating, the warden simply pulls out his ticket and hands it to the rider with two hands, as if he were giving an ang bao to his grandchild.

Untouched by the man’s politeness, the upset rider says “You cannot see, ah?”, before snatching the ticket out of the man’s outstretched hands with the velocity of a jaguar chasing a deer.

The parking warden returns to his vehicle, and the video ends there.

Who Was Right?

No one deserves verbal abuse, but was the rider right in his claims?

In short, no.

The biker appeared to have parked his vehicle along the side of a road with a single yellow zigzag line.

According to regulations set by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), only “the immediate picking up and alighting of passengers” is allowed on such roads.

So, if the rider, as it seems in the video, left for a brief period, it’s still illegal.

The only exception to this rule is for “immediately taking up or setting down persons, goods or luggage.”

So, before you call a parking warden blind, deaf, and stupid, please do a quick Google search to determine if you actually have a case.

And even if you’re in the right, please do not verbally abuse these wardens. They’re just doing their job, after all.
