You know that awkward moment when your friend owes you money but “forgets” all about it? It’s a little weird to bring up because you might get responses like this:
- Wah, so impatient ah? I only borrowed money from you two weeks ago
- Aiyah, I thought we were friends? What’s this?
If you’re a generous soul who lends money to people often, you might be sick and tired of having this awkward conversation.
Fortunately, the future is here, and you can now make this request on Telegram using a bot.

You Can Now Use PayLah! From Telegram With a Bot Developed by DBS
DBS just announced that it has enabled payment via PayLah! on the messaging app Telegram!
And the bank even developed its own Telegram bot for it.
“The PayLah! bot makes sending and requesting money easier than finding the perfect reaction GIF. Just summon the bot and let it take care of business right in your Telegram chat,” it said.
So, how does it work?
To send money, all you have to do is type @PayLahBot<space> within your chat session, and enter the desired amount.
Once you hit “Send”, a message detailing the transfer will pop up in your chat. Click confirm and your PayLah! app will magically pop up. Simply log in and confirm the transfer.
You’ll then be taken back to your chat in Telegram, where both you and your friend will see a confirmation message.
Have a look:

When requesting money, type @PayLahBot<space> within your chat session and enter the amount. Only this time, tap “Request” instead of “Send”.
Your friend will then be reminded in the chat of the amount owed, and will have to follow the same directions above.
Do note that there’s a time limit of 48 hours for requests; if the request expires after 48 hours, you’ll have to send it again. No funds will be deducted until the sender accepts the request, of course.
The cool thing is that you can even send money to recipients without a PayLah! account, as long as they have a PayNow account tied to their number.
Is it Safe?
You can also be assured that it’s safe to make payments through the bot, as DBS explains, “The Telegram PayLah Bot is developed and maintained by DBS Bank, so all transactions are encrypted and completed in a secure environment.

“Each outgoing transfer must be authenticated based on existing PayLah! security protocols before funds are deducted from your wallet… during the entire process, Telegram will also not have any access to your bank account information.”
Of course, you should never respond to any message asking for your PIN, password, or OTP through Telegram, other messaging platforms, phone calls, or emails.
