US FDA Reportedly Approves Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine & Here’s What It Means for the World

We all wish that COVID-19 would just disappear.

Businesses and jobs have been affected, lives have been lost and daily life as a whole has changed.

But we’re steadily fighting back, especially with the recent development of some COVID-19 vaccines.

And one of them, the Pfizer, has been making the headlines recently.

US FDA Reportedly Approves Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine

Apparently, the aforementioned vaccine has now been reportedly approved for emergency use by the US Food and Drug Administration on 11 Dec.

Other countries have also cleared the vaccine as well.

These include Britain, Bahrain, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

More countries will be set to clear it in the coming weeks.

Definitely eases the fear when more than one country approves.

The current POTUS, Donald Trump, has declared that they will begin distributing the vaccine around the country within 24 hours.

He wants people such as senior citizens and health care workers prioritised. Quite similar to how Singapore would eventually distribute vaccines as well.

“This will quickly and dramatically reduce deaths and hospitalisations.”

A Big Impact

This is a huge move for the superpower of a nation.

Currently, the US has the most recorded COVID-19 deaths in the world, at around 300,000.

Pfizer has an agreement with the US Government to distribute roughly 100 million vaccines by March 2021.

In partnership with multiple groups, they also aim to get the first week’s shipment of 3 million doses out as soon as possible.

These will be given to health care workers and nursing home residents.

The vaccines are also going to be free.

It’s reported that all states and six major cities have already sent a list of places where they need Pfizer to be shipped to.

Another reason why this is big? Vaccines usually take a few years to be made.

Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech had started work on this one only 11 months ago and was found to be 95 per cent effective.

And if all goes well in the approved countries, other nations would see the results and be less wary of shipping in the vaccine.

Even Singapore is potentially preparing to bring in vaccines like Moderna. If Pfizer gets approved as well, this could mean more opportunities for people to get vaccinated, because if the US approves it, it means it should be safe for all.

Not For Those With Bad Allergies

However, even if it’s a vaccine, it may not be perfect.

Just a few days ago, the UK said that Pfizer might be life-threatening for those with serious allergic reactions.

Two people had apparently had severe reactions during the first day of mass vaccination.

They allegedly suffered from anaphylaxis and another possibly suffered a possible allergic reaction.

Luckily, they are both recovering properly.

While it is rare, people who’ve had a history of it have been warned away from the Pfizer vaccine.
