The Cabinet reshuffling that was promised when Finance Minister Lawrence Wong was announced as the leader of the Fourth-Generation (4G) of politicians in the People’s Action Party (PAP) has arrived.

In typical Singaporean fashion, individuals have been shifted around to different ministries, but the names remain familiar to us.

The Promotions

Mr Lawrence Wong has been promoted to Deputy Prime Minister, and will act as Acting Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He will continue to be the Minister for Finance.

He will also assume responsibility for the Strategy Group within the Prime Minister’s Office, thus taking over from Mr Heng Swee Keat.

Mr Tan Kiat How will be promoted to Senior Minister of State, while keeping his positions in the Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of National Development.

Mr Eric Chua has been elevated to Senior Parliamentary Secretary. He will continue to serve in the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Similarly, Ms Rahayu Mahzam has been promoted to Senior Parliamentary Secretary, and will be taking up a new position in the Ministry of Law in lieu of the Ministry of Communications and Information. She will still continue to be in the Ministry of Health.
