Police Arrested Man Who Reportedly Tried To Rob A Bedok Pawn Shop With A Chopper in Yishun

Singapore’s a safe country.

But like my handsome, hunky colleague mentioned, that doesn’t mean stuff doesn’t happen.

As this 40-something-year-old man will show you.

Bedok Pawn Shop Gets Unwanted Visitor

On 12 July at around 1.50 pm, a pawn shop in Bedok met an unfriendly dude on a mission: to rob them blind. Unfortunately (for him, not the pawnshop), his plan failed.

The manager of the pawn shop, a Mr Choo, said he saw a masked dude with a kitchen chopper in hand made his way into the shop.

He slammed his weapon on a glass display. Whether it’s a show of force or he simply wanted to get at the goods within and run off, nobody knows.

Because instead of the glass display breaking, his kitchen chopper broke into pieces.

And there was only one thing he could do.

He picked up the pieces and ran.

The entire incident allegedly happened within a span of five minutes.

Neighbours Unaware

When reporters from Channel NewsAsia spoke to nearby shops, they said they were not aware of the incident when it happened.

They only knew about what happened when a crowd gathered and the policemen started appearing on the scene.

As for the pawn shop itself, the employees were not afraid of getting robbed successfully. They’re more afraid of people getting hacked into gory pieces in their shop.

After all, they have insurance to cover monetary losses.

Police Showed Alleged Robber’s Face

One day after the incident on 13 July 2019, the Singapore Police Force decided to reveal the face of the brokenhearted suspect.

And about 32 hours later, the man was arrested in – wait for it – Yishun.

Apparently, he had tried to cover his tracks by changing his clothes a few times after fleeing the scene.

The man will be charged on Monday for attempted armed robbery.

Not The First Time

ValueMax pawn shop getting hit by a robber isn’t something new. A similar incident happened back in Aug 2018.

A 29-year-old Bangladeshi was armed with a chopper and an object he convinced the shop manager was a gun.

He also threw an object which he claimed was a bomb on the counter.

The suspect, in this case, was caught a few days later.

Moral of the Story

If you see a heist in action, whether it be at the pawn shop or bank, please don’t try and stop it.

After all, the shop can recoup its losses via insurance. Your life is permanently gone.
