Lest you’re unaware, the Taiwan #MeToo movement has been all the rage lately. And one celebrity figure can be accredited with its explosion:

Comedian Mickey Huang.

Outed for his less-than-appropriate actions to Internet celebrity Zofia over a decade ago, he spilt the beans on 18 other stars before attempting suicide. His venture ultimately failed, and he was discharged the next day.

Thereafter, he promised to become a better person.

Police Now Investigating Mickey Huang’s Sexual Assault Allegations

But before he can do that, he must first clear investigations by the handcuff-happy men.

Yeah, the police.

According to reports, police investigations pertaining to Mickey Huang’s sexual assault allegations have finally begun, months after the entire saga first broke out.

Apparently, investigations were launched a few days ago, on 4 August 2023. Police had escorted Huang to the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office in the afternoon, where he was accompanied by his wife, Summer Meng, and his lawyer.

Reporters and camera crew were at the scene, and they scrambled to get close-ups of his profile as he passed. Some also screamed questions such as “Do you have anything to say?”, “Will you apologise?” and “Hsiao Yen Jie wanted you to face the music; how will you do it?”

For context, the “Hsiao Yen Jie” in question refers to the veteran television host Chang Hsiao Yen, who serves as Huang’s close friend and mentor.

When Huang was previously sent to the hospital for treatment, Hsiao Yen had said: “My heart is in pain now.”

Denied Charges

Huang’s residential homes have been scoured, and his computer and communication devices have been seized.

At the Prosecutor’s Office, Huang was interrogated for around two hours. Besides Zofia’s allegations, Huang was accused of illegal drug use and sexual misconduct.

Apparently, he had forced another woman to have sex more than ten years ago.

Huang has since denied the allegations, stating that it was consensual. He claimed that the deed had occurred after a session of erotic photography.

The comedian is currently on bail of NT$350,000 (S$14,700).

Summer Meng

Despite the backlash, Huang’s wife, actress Summer Meng, has previously stated that she would face the music alongside her husband.

“We are family, no matter what happens,” she said. “We will face it together and mend the wrongs that were done in the past.”

After the scandal broke out, Meng pulled out of an upcoming movie titled Save It, My Family Is Rich, and withdrew the promotion for her art exhibition.

How the Whole Saga Started

On 19 June 2023, an Internet celebrity known as Zofia made allegations against an unnamed Taiwan celebrity in a Facebook post.

In the entry, she claimed that a Taiwanese celebrity with a positive public image had forced himself on her when she was 17 years old.

He purportedly kissed her without permission and confessed that he liked her.

He later apologised for it.

Three years later, however, he would invite her to his hotel room, where he asked her to remove her top for an artistic shoot.

Due to her naivety and the celebrity’s “positive image”, she ultimately agreed.

Halfway through the photoshoot, however, Zofia regretted her decision and started to cry uncontrollably out of regret and fear.

But instead of stopping the photoshoot, Huang continued snapping away, even telling her that she looked beautiful while crying.

Though the celebrity was unnamed, Netizens quickly deduced that it might be Taiwanese comedian Mickey Huang, as the unnamed celebrity was implied to have had a daughter recently.

Huang would “confess” to the allegations later, posting three (now defunct) apology clips on his social media accounts.

In the clips, he also explained why he had committed such acts, and “exposed” several Taiwanese celebrities.

Some of the celebrities he called out include sisters Barbie and Dee Hsu, Aya Liu, Mavis Fan, Jesse Tang and even Jacky Wu.

In particular, he accused the Hsu sisters and Liu of being involved in drugs.

As for Wu, he talked about how he found Wu’s past romantic relationships and his views towards them troubling.

Huang also complained about how Wu would act dramatically every time he was nominated for the Golden Bell Awards.

After Huang’s Facebook videos were uploaded, they were deleted later that day.

Huang went missing as well.

He also failed to appear at a press conference he was supposed to host.

Huang only resurfaced when he was sent to Taipei Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.

Further Allegations

After the saga, Taiwanese celebrity columnist Ko Ssu-Chi took to Facebook to expose Huang further.

Apparently, other girls had also been sexually harassed by Huang in the past.

He said that he receives a shocking number of messages from Huang’s victims, who turn to him for help every single day.

One victim, in particular, shared how Huang wanted her to strip nude when she was attending a casting call for a magazine at the age of 15.

Huang had apparently said that it was to check if she had any scars on her body.
