Police NSF Flashed Warrant Card to Try & Solicit Free Services From Social Escort

If there’s one thing you should take seriously in Singapore, it’s the law.

And for the boys, their role during National Service (NS) as well.

However, it seems like a full-time national serviceman (NSF) from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) did neither of those things last year while off duty.

The NSF, a 20-year-old named Fahd Siddiqui, had attempted to obtain free services from an escort by showing that he was a policeman.

Kind of like when your mother plays the “You better listen to me, or else there’s not going to be dinner for you” card, but much worse.

On Tuesday (4 April), Fahd pleaded guilty to one charge of corruption as he tried to get sexual services from the escort as a form of gratification.

Another charge, which involved him carrying out the same act with two other escorts on 4 December that year, was also taken into consideration.

It was also revealed in court that Fahd was a ground response force officer at Orchard Neighbourhood Police Centre at the time of the offence but was removed from frontline duties afterwards.

First Found Out About Woman’s Services Online but Claimed that She Was Different in Real Life

In court, it was revealed that Fahd had first found out about the escort’s services through a phone number listed on Locanto, an online classifieds website.

He decided to contact the number on 1 November last year and found out that the escort was staying at Robertson Quay Hotel, a hotel along Merbau Road near Clemenceau Avenue, at that time.

Fahd was also quoted $400 for the escort’s services. Ultimately, he chose to visit the escort at around 9 pm that day.

However, upon reaching her room, he said that she was different from the woman that was featured in the online advertisement.

He then left the room after telling the escort that he was no longer interested.

Returned After Agent Offered Lower Prices, But He Tried to Get Services for Free

After leaving the room, the escort’s agent mentioned to Fahd over WhatsApp that the price for the escort’s sexual services could be reduced.

But like the overly-greedy bargaining aunties at a wet market, that wasn’t enough for Fahd.

In fact, he wanted the services to be free.

In court, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kelvin Chong pointed out that Fahd “showed [the woman] his warrant card and identified himself as a police officer”.

He had also threatened her and said that he would inform the police unless they could reach “some sort of arrangement”.

“[The escort] understood this to mean that if she provided him with free sexual services, the accused would not report her to the police,” DPP Chong added.

Apparently, Fahd had done so not only because he wanted to get sexual services for free but also because he was curious to see how much his “police powers” could benefit him.

Woman Cried, Fahd Ended Up Not Getting Services from Her

Just like how anyone being threatened with a police report would react, the escort started to cry.

She also told Fahd that she had only arrived in Singapore recently.

Eventually, she decided to call her agent out of fear and Fahd left her room without obtaining the services from her.

CPIB Found Out a Few Days After the Incident

Eventually, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CIPB) was informed of the incident on 6 November.

However, court documents did not indicate how the CPIB learned about Fahd’s actions.

Fahd was then charged in court shortly after on 24 November.

Defence Council Asked for Probation and Conditional Discharge

Umar Abdullah of IRB Law LLP, who was the defence counsel, noted that Fahd was a first-time offender.

As such, he asked for a conditional discharge and probation for Fahd.

Regarding Fahd’s offence, he attributed it to the poor influence that Fahd’s NSF friends had on him, especially since they were his “only close friends”.

Yup, not all people you meet in NS become your wholesome supper buddies.

It was also revealed that Fahd had lived overseas for over 16 years before starting to serving NS.

Apart from that, Mr Umar added that Fahd participates in volunteer activities often, meaning that he would most likely be receptive to rehabilitation efforts.

Might Not Be Suitable for Probation

In court, both DPP Chong and DPP Leong Kit Yu also pointed out that probation would not be the most appropriate way to deal with Fahd’s offences.

According to them, this was because Fahd carried out his offences twice and traumatised the escort.

Instead, they sought reformative training, which is catered to offenders who have committed “relatively serious crimes” and are under the age of 21, for Fahd.

For the unaware, reformative training involves being detained in a centre and adhering to a strict schedule. The schedule involves activities such as foot drills and counselling.

District Judge Called for Reports to Determine Whether Probation or Reformative Training is Better

In response to Mr Umar, District Judge Kessler Soh mentioned that he was unconvinced by the former’s sentencing submission since Fahd’s offence was a serious abuse of power that “must not be downplayed”.

Additionally, the judge mentioned that Fahd had impacted the social escort by traumatising her,

He then called for reports to determine whether Fahd would be more suitable for probation and reformative training.

In the meantime, he said that Fahd would be remanded at the rehabilitation training centre until next Tuesday (11 April).

Afterwards, he will be offered bail again.

Last but not least, Fahd is expected to return to court for his sentencing on 16 May.

For committing an offence under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, individuals may face up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of $100,000, or both.
