People often forget that there are two sides to everything, whether it’s a Mathematical equation, a bronze coin…
Or allegations, which may sometimes be ‘lopsided’ in nature.
The Sembawang Piece Of Raw Pork
It all started with a slice of raw pork.
And a couple of potted plants in the walkway, but the raw pork still takes precedence here.
On Sunday (15 November), a Netizen wrote in a post to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, entailing a neighbour’s quirks that her parents have had to contend with.
The Netizen also added that the neighbour, who’s described as a middle-aged Chinese man who resides alone, is “unhygienic and inconsiderate”.
According to the post, the man would place pots of plants in the middle of the corridor walkway, and even situated a raw piece of pork on the handrail outside his unit.
Apparently, the piece of pork was there from Thursday (12 November), during which it purportedly dripped blood and oil to the unit below.
According to Zaobao, the man has a track record of piling junk in the corridor.
Neighbours have reportedly filed a complaint to the authorities before, but the situation did not improve.
This is, however, believed to be the first time that a slice of raw meat was “piled” outside the house.
Removed
According to a spokesperson from Sembawang Town Council, the offending pieces have since been removed.
The resident has apologised for his actions, and stated that there will not be a second time.
Cleaners have also sanitised the handrail for other residents’ usage.
“The resident was apologetic, and assured us that this won’t happen again,” the statement read.
“Our cleaners have also cleaned and sanitised the handrail for the other residents’ peace of mind when using it.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, and will take appropriate action when necessary.”
So, why did he do that?
Man Who Placed Raw Pork on Sembawang HDB Explained His Side of the Story
According to Zaobao, the neighbour in question happens to be a 52-year-old Shu Li, who operates as a part-time karang guni.
Apparently, he was not drying the slice of raw meat as media outlets have previously speculated. Instead, the meat was purportedly laid outside for the crows to feed on.
He has also taken an injured bird under his wing, and is currently nursing it back to health in a cardboard box.
As for the “junk” lying around in the corridor, Mr Li stated that it’s due to his profession.
Lacking strength in his hands, he professed that he can only move the items into the unit on a gradual basis.
Contrary to his neighbours’ beliefs, he had not intended to block the passageway.
Previous Instances
Though Mr Li has denied that he was “drying” the meat, it appears that such instances have actually occurred in the past.
Just last month, an HDB resident was caught hanging slabs of pork belly outside the flat’s kitchen window to dry.
There were at least seven slabs that were hung out to dry.
In March 2020, Nee Soon Town Council had to intervene when a family in Yishun took to hanging meat on the laundry rack.
Due to the slabs of meat, neighbours reportedly picked up on particularly “foul smells”.
And back in December 2018, a local household in the Beach Road area reportedly left raw slices of meat out to dry.
It was purportedly part of the jerky-making process, and was believed to have gone on for years.
