Woman Has to Resort to Pouring Water Down On Neighbour Who Smoke on the Lower Storey

Living in HDB flats usually means having neighbours in close vicinity.

It’s up to our own efforts to be considerate of our neighbours regarding things like noise and smoking.

Still, if something grinds your gears, be sure to have an amicable talk with your neighbours.

Don’t pour water on them, please.

Water-Filled Frustration

But according to Lianhe Wanbao, someone did just that.

A 68-year-old lady seemed to be extremely fed up with her neighbour below for smoking every day.

She was annoyed that the smell of secondhand smoke would always drift into her house, especially if the wind blew it in.

So to stop him from doing that, the lady decided to take action by pouring water out of her window onto him.

The woman lives on the third floor of an HDB flat along Bedok Reservoir Road.

Neighbour Got Angry

She definitely wasn’t right to pour water on him either.

The neighbour, a 64-year-old man, initially thought that the lady was just washing her windows.

However, the pouring incidents happened four times over a period of two months and in the fourth incident, she had yelled at him.

“She’s so unreasonable, my hands were all wet!”

He also said that it wasn’t her business that he smoked in his own house.

Smoked More Than Before

The woman told Lianhe Wanbao that she knew he smoked a lot but started doing it more this year.

She mentioned that he smoked in the morning and afternoon.

Even when using the toilet in the wee hours of the day, she could still smell the smoke.

The woman and her husband eventually resorted to wearing masks even while at home.

She had actually tried to come to a middle ground with the neighbour but he insisted he couldn’t break his habit after so many years.

The man defended himself to the Chinese newspaper by saying none of his other three tenants had complained about him smoking before.

He also claims to smoke around 20 cigarettes a day.

No Easy Solution

Smoking in HDBs is always a tricky case.

While some may not appreciate the smell of the smoke, it’s technically not illegal to do so unless.

This is barring any additional house rules or by-laws put in place by owners/managers of premises against smoking in their premises.

The National Environment Agency has also been working with town councils to encourage people to not smoke at their windows.

We hope others who face this situation would resolve it a little less…aggressively than this one.
