Prepare Your N95 and Stay Away from The West: Haze Might be Coming

Guys, this is bad.

Remember all that thick smoke we had to breathe in the last few years? The hazedemic, as we called it?

It might just be back.

According to Channels News Asia, 282 hot spots have been detected across Indonesia, but there could be even more as the satellite might have missed certain potential areas.

Additionally, the dry season isn’t going to be over until next month, so the hotspots might still increase.

National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the worst affected area was West Kalimantan, where more than half of the hotspots were discovered.

In fact, five districts – Kubu Raya, Ketapang, Sekadau, Melawi and Bengkayang – have gone into emergency state to allow the local authorities to access central government support and extinguish the fires.

He added that while 150 hotspots were discovered in West Kalimantan, the number of fires might be higher.

Other areas were hit too, although none were as severe as West Kalimantan. South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Riau and East Nusa Tenggara suffered too.

The hotspots tend to be located at difficult-to-access areas – private plantation land, community-owned land and national parks – and that’s why the fires are hard to fight.

Indonesia are trying their best to combat it though, with 18 helicopters deployed for firefighting operations as of 5 August.

According to Indonesia’s Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, they will use water-bombings if an area is unapproachable or difficult to enter.

Prepare your N95 masks, guys. It’s coming.

And stay away from the west, because 471. No?

Jokes aside, if you’ve needed to train for your IPPT or do whatever exercise, do it now, because you never know what’s going to happen soon.
