The job market is pretty tough at the moment.

With the economy in tatters and businesses looking to cut costs any way they can, finding employment can be a difficult task.

If you’re looking for a job, this insurance company might have an opening for you.

Prudential Recruiting 500 Financial Consultants Next Year

Insurance company Prudential Singapore will be holding a recruitment drive next year where they plan to hire up to 500 financial consultants for a new talent management programme.

This includes 200 mid-career individuals.

The company is investing $1 million in the talent management programme to train mid-career professionals in financial advisory.

“As one of the largest insurers in Singapore, we want to offer support to both mid-career job seekers and young people who face limited employment opportunities in this tough climate”, chief agency officer John Soong told The Straits Times.

Soong believes that the expansion has been driven by the pandemic, which has brought the importance of insurance into relief.

In the programme, which lasts two years, participants will undergo a year-long competency and skills course where they’ll be given technical training and taught how to be an effective leader and communicator.

But that’s not why you’re here, of course.

Perhaps the most attractive part of the programme is that participants will get a monthly allowance of up to $10,000 depending on their relevant work experience for the two years.

As Soong noted, this programme is an opportunity for mid-career individual to switch career paths.

“Our programme has been designed to help eligible candidates fast-track their insurance careers by equipping them with critical technical and practical knowledge as well as the necessary soft skills. They will also benefit from mentoring by a team of agency leader,” he said.

Fresh graduates who join Prudential will also receive a monthly transition allowance for the first two years, to ease them into their careers.

Before starting out, they will undergo an in-house training programme which will equip them with the necessary knowledge to be a competent financial consultant.

This includes grooming in topics such as financial planning, financial needs analysis, investment, and retirement planning, to name a few.

Be Your Own Boss

One advantage of working as a financial consultant is that just like working for a private-hire company, you’re essentially your own boss.

Working in the field grants you a degree of independence that you may not find in other jobs.

You can set your own goals, appointments, and shape your schedule to achieve your desired work-life balance.

But of course, if you don’t perform, you won’t have work or life to balance.
