And with such a big new-gen console release, you have to wonder how well it sold, right?

Pretty darn good.

On its first two days of launch, around 2.1 to 2.5 million units of PS5s were apparently sold.

This topped the Xbox Series X and S by over a million units, with Microsoft’s console series selling around 1.2 to 1.4 million units.

Which is still a massive achievement, by the way.

Sony even made a tweet regarding the console’s success on 25 Nov.

They thanked the supporters and promising that more PS5s would be coming by the year’s end.

In fact, the PS5 has done so well that talks of a new version have been floating about.

Sony Might Release a Cheaper and Smaller PlayStation 5 in 2021

It might even come around next year.

It’s been reported that a new version of the Sony’s latest console, dubbed the PS5 Lite is projected to release in the second half of 2021.

This information comes from Sina Daily, from a renowned Chinese blogger expert in digital technology.

If this is true, this would happen considerably sooner compared to its predecessor, the PS4.

The PS4 launched in 2013 and its later and more compact version, the PS4 Slim, was released only in Sept 2016.

This was then followed up by the PS4 Pro in Nov that year, which featured improvements such as a better graphic card.

If it follows the PS4 Slim’s trends, the speculated console will probably cheaper as well.

Currently, there’s no news on the PS5 Lite’s specifications but is said to also be a more compact version of the current console.

There has been no official statement from Sony yet.

We can only speculate if a ‘Pro’ model might likely be released in the future.

Getting The PS5 Now

But for those who aren’t ready for a speculated console, you can currently get two different versions of the PS5 now.

Retail price for the PS5 Digital Edition is going for S$599 and the one with an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive is priced at S$729.

But what’s the difference?

The Digital Edition shown above has no disc drive.

You need to sign into Playstation Network, go to the Playstation Store and buy games the games directly. You can then download them onto the console.

So then what reason would you have to purchase the more expensive version?

The version Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive can run physical copies of PS5 games.

You can also view 4K Blu-ray discs on 4K TV with their console.

Got to lighten your wallet for an increase in features.

A more in-depth review can be found here, though do note that the prices have changed to the ones mentioned above as of this writing.
