The 2020 general election saw the birth of many political superstars.
Master debater Jamus Lim won the hearts of Singaporeans with his stellar performance in the live political debate with veterans like Vivian Balakrishnan.
The white cat that was spotted during CNA’s broadcast of the election results special also drew nationwide fame and admiration after it woke countless residents from their deep slumber before newscasters announced the results.

And then there’s Progress Singapore Party (PSP) chief Dr Tan Cheng Bock.
At 80 years old, Dr Tan was one of the oldest candidates contesting in the election, but that didn’t stop him from connecting to the youth through social media.
The veteran politician went from asking netizens how to rotate one of his photos to sharing memes of himself.
Now, Dr Hypebeast’s party is conducting a fundraiser, and they need the public’s help.

Decent Performance in First GE
You may not know this, but the Progress Singapore Party might be younger than some of your children.
It was founded on 28 March 2019 by Dr Tan, who is a former PAP MP, and 11 other members, some of whom were from the PAP too.

PSP’s membership has since reached 1,000, the most famous of which is Lee Hsien Yang, brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
PSP may not have won in any of the nine constituencies in which it contested in GE2020, but Dr Tan was proud of his party nonetheless, as it managed to achieve an average vote share of 40%.
“We have caused an impact in this General Election (GE). We may not have won seats, but if we look at the level of support to PSP candidates, the average is about 40 per cent,” he said.
“An average of 40 per cent for a new party and going into all these new areas, I am actually quite proud of that performance. I think it is the beginning of a new chapter for PSP, and I think the movement that I have created will grow.”
PSP’s best performance came in West Coast GRC against the ruling party, where it managed to snag 48.31% of the votes against a strong PAP team that included Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran and Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee.
