But these three people thought that it would be a good idea to “sweat it out” after being “cooped up at home for a month”, and kayaking is the solution.

By the way, it’s really their words, not mine.

And for that, they’re going to stay in a paid chalet with no Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, though they sure can still sweat it out.

On 13 April 2020, the three friends decided to go kayaking, fishing and camping in Pulau Ubin.

It’s unknown why it was reported why one of the men, Zulman Mashonain, had said he had been home for a month. But back then, we all know our perception of time was somehow distorted, and days felt like months.

Zulman then rode his bike to Pasir Ris Park while his two friends, Rizani Sham Mohamed Hussin and Mohamed Hafiz Mat Nadar, took a Grab car to meet him.

The three goody friends even brought along fishing rods, hammocks, food, water and other items. It would have been a rather romantic bromance scene if not for the fact that it’s illegal to gather.

Why romantic, you ask.

The trio kayaked to Pulau Ubin and started a fire at the Chek Jawa Wetlands area at 10pm. Either they miss their NS days or they’re just inseparable.

But as we’d all know, it’s unfair that we’re struggling to look for new shows to watch in Netflix while they have a mini-campfire, so they’re getting their due punishment.

The prosecution has harsh words for the offenders, saying that they were “highly culpable” because their reasons for breaking the regulations was purely recreational as they felt cooped up at home, unlike some others who left the house to, erm, say, have bak kut teh?

The prosecution said, “Their attitude is the opposite of the restraint exercised by the majority of Singapore citizens during this pandemic, who did not even meet family members to avoid community spread.

“Even after their overnight stay, and even after being told to leave by (a National Parks Board officer), they stayed on in another part of Pulau Ubin to have their lunch. Even after finishing lunch, they continued to kayak to admire the sunset and fish for several hours.”

It’s not revealed how they got the kayaks, though.

Today (15 June 2020), all three of them have been sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment and fined between $700 to $1,500.
