You probably know about the tragic incident that happened last Sunday.

38-year-old Tay Rui Hao had gone out for a jog, and was allegedly attacked by 20-year-old Surajsrikan Diwakar Mani Tripathi.

Tay was taken to Sengkang General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Today, Surajsrikan was charged for stabbing the victim near a bus stop in Punggol Field Road on 10 May at 11.08pm.

Surajsrikan’s motive is still unknown, but preliminary police investigations show that Surajsrikan does not know the victim and had acted alone.

He is now remanded in Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre for psychiatric evaluation and will be back in court on 5 June 2020.

Chinese evening daily, Shin Min Daily News, has reported more information about the suspect.

Mother of Suspect: He Has Gone Out for a Run

According to Shin Min, Surajsrikan’s mother said that he has, too, gone out for a run that fateful evening.

It’s unknown why he had a knife with him, though.

His mother had also said that he had stopped schooling at primary school level and did not serve NS, though she mentioned in a 2018 Facebook post that he was enlisting.

In her Facebook, she also mentioned that Surajsrikan had hit his siblings before.

In addition, she said that Surajsrikan had mental problems but did not elaborate on it.

Neighbours: No Issue With the Family

Shin Min reporters have spoken to Surajsrikan’s neighbours and it seems like there had never been any issue with Surajsrikan, though they could hear quarrels from the unit occasionally.

In fact, Surajsrikan’s family had always kept their door open.

However, in the last few days, things changed a little: the family is unusually quiet, and Surajsrikan, who had often smoked at the nearby staircase, wasn’t seen doing so recently as well.

Surajsrikan had been arrested at his home on Saturday morning at 2:45am.
