Last Sunday (10 May), a series of violent incidents occurred, and one of which is fatal: 38-year-old Tay Rui Hao was found injured and died soon after.
A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday, and today, he appeared in court via videoconferencing to face his charge.
The man, Surajsrikan Diwakar Mani Tripathi, was charged for stabbing the victim near a bus stop in Punggol Field Road on May 10 at 11.08pm.
What Happened
It’s revealed that Tay was jogging in Punggol Field when he was suddenly stabbed near a bus stop in Punggol Field, opposite Blk 227A Sumang Lane.
A resident had heard Tay’s cries for help and called the police.
Surajsrikan’s motive is unknown, but preliminary police investigations show that Surajsrikan does not know the victim and had acted alone.
Tay was sent to Sengkang General Hospital with multiple stab wounds, and succumbed to his injuries.

Surajsrikan is now remanded in Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre for psychiatric evaluation and will be back in court on 5 June 2020.
The police have found him through round-the-clock investigations, extensive ground inquiries and review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Members of the Gurkha Contingent were also activated for the manhunt.
If convicted of murder, Surajsrikan could face the death penalty.
Tay had left his house at around 10pm, and allegedly worked in a sportswear company.
He lived with his wife and a dog, and was cremated on 12 May 2020 afternoon at Mandai crematorium.
A Day of Violence Last Sunday
It wasn’t the only violent incident last Sunday.
At about 3:30am that day, two groups of youths exchanged blows in a Chinatown condo, with one group attacking the other with parangs.
Two men had also assaulted a 30-year-old man along Bishan St 12 at about 5:40am, leaving him with cuts on his head and a fractured hand.
Over in Jurong West in the evening, a 21-year-old attacked a 26-year-old man with a “dangerous weapon”, leaving a pond of blood beside Blk 452.
In all the cases, all suspects have been arrested except for one in the Chinatown condo.
