Now, even if you don’t know much about the real Silicon Valley, you should at least have heard of the TV series with the same name.
…No? Oh man, I was hoping that this series would be more popular. Anyway, for the uninitiated, Silicon Valley is a place in California where many start-up and global technology companies call their home. Just so you know how significant this place is, I’m referring to companies like Facebook, Google, and Apple.

Anyway, how would you feel if I say that Singapore might just have our very own Silicon Valley?
On 21 Jan, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean launched the masterplan for the Punggol Digital District at Waterway Point mall. Punggol north would become a centre for digital and cyber-security industries in the near future, kinda like that of Silicon Valley!
That being said, we’re also looking at 28,000 digital economy jobs being generated! Great news for those of you in the related industries!
According to Mr Teo, their plan is to make Punggol “a hub for key growth sectors of the digital economy”. As such, related government agencies may also be moved to the district in the near future.
“This will help create a new cluster of cyber-security and technology firms in Punggol. Our residents can look forward to many exciting jobs in the future close to home.”
The district will also be used to test out new zoning rules and planning practices. Developers will hence be given more flexibility. The district will also be car-lite, with parking spaces located underground.
The new campus of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) will also be located within the district. This would create opportunities for students to exchange ideas for industry practitioners working in the area.
Wow, can you imagine both studying and working in Punggol in the future? It could either suck big time or be really awesome, depending on how you look at it(On top of that, imagine if you’re actually living in Punggol).

Punggol Digital District will serve as the model for potential future projects, allowing the relevant authorities to study and find out if the model can be applied to other areas in the future.
Whoa, can you imagine if we have districts like academy city in the near future?
…I’m sorry, forgive me for having such geeky dreams.
Anyway, I hope this is a step in the right direction for Singapore! I can’t wait to see the changes this would bring about in the long run!
Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
