Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar Uses Safe Distancing Bears to Maintain Dine-In Rules

No one’s mastered the concept of pushing and pulling more than the COVID-19 pandemic, taking the very term to new heights ever since your toxic ex.

Just a few months ago, when dining-in was still possible with large groups of up to eight people and we thought we’d finally see the light at the end of the tunnel soon, it all started crashing down again.

That’s how we landed in the Heightened Alert phase of no dine-in yet again after a year.

And now, we’re slowly moving back into the territory of enjoying our meals in restaurants, but in pairs instead.

Well, this one restaurant in Tanjong Pagar‘s prepared something special for diners upon their reopening, seeing as it has been an unbearably long wait.

Restaurant Using Safe Distancing Bears

It can get really sad sometimes when you visit a restaurant to eat there and see half the restaurant empty, with seats blocked out by giant red crosses and tables pushed aside.

And it makes one wonder whether the pandemic and a zombie apocalypse have more in common than we think.

However, safe distancing indicators are done rather differently at Spanish establishment Pura Brasa, located in the prominent CBD area along Wallich Street.

You’ll be welcomed by a bunch of large, fluffy teddy bears as you walk in instead.

Yep, instead of having tape to block off seats for social distancing purposes, bears will be seated at those tables.

Look how adorable they are!

What’s even beartter is that they’re fondly referred to as safe distancing amBEARssadors, a pun that we strongly approve of.

First Appeared Last Year

In July last year, after we were finally released from the shackles of the Circuit Breaker and dining-in reopened, these bears made their debut in the restaurant.

With bears of different colours and different charms seated around the place, it sure makes things look even comfier and brighter, huh?

Now, with the need to reshuffle their table arrangements in line with the new Phase 3 guidelines, even more bears will be joining the party, the restaurant shared on Facebook.

That way, there will be no empty tables – they’ll simply be taken up by bears looking to enjoy some enchiladas just like you and me.

Pura Brasa’s creative idea of using bears was due to them wanting to avoid using black tape or signs to block seats off as most restaurants do.

Apparently, the bears have attracted a lot of attention from netizens and passersby alike, thanks to the positive vibes they’ve given off while in the midst of the pandemic.

The restaurant even added that they are also planning to step up their measures by donning each bear in a face mask, an essential for everyone.

Kids will probably also be pleading their parents to eat there just so they can sit beside one of the bears, and the same would probably go for soft toy lovers.

You don’t have to worry about dining alone as well – for the bear sitting opposite you will offer you some sort of comfort and company at least, just like what Hai Di Lao does for single customers.

Who needs a boyfriend when you’ve got a bearfriend?

You can see the bears for yourself at the restaurant just right outside Guoco Tower.

If these bears can peacefully observe social distancing rules, unlike certain Karens, we can definitely do our part to do the same too.
