Everyone, rejoice.
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ramadan bazaars are making a comeback this year.
For this year, there will be two physical Ramadan bazaars: One at Kampong Glam, and the other at Geylang Serai.
I don’t know about you, but my mouth’s already watering as I recall all the scrumptious food I had at my last Ramadan bazaar.
Yesterday (15 March), Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim took to Facebook to announce the return of the Ramadan bazaars, allowing members of the public to have a more enjoyable experience as they go shopping for their festive goods.
There will be a “Hari Raya Light Up” at both locations as well according to Dr Faishal, so don’t miss them!
In his post, Dr Faishal mentioned, “I hope that these two events will add festive cheer to this year’s celebrations but please remember to remain cautious and observe the stipulated safe management measures at all times so that we can continue to keep each other safe.”
Additionally, he also informed members of the public that the social media pages for Wisma Geylang Serai and One Kampong Glam will be posting more details regarding the bazaars in the upcoming weeks.
It was reported last Friday that the bazaar in Geylang Serai will run from 2 April to 2 May—the duration of the fasting month of Ramadan this year.
Ramadan Bazaars Details
If you’re already planning to jio all your kakis to visit the bazaars together, here’s all the details you need to know.
According to The Straits Times, the Geylang Serai bazaar will operate from 2 April to 2 May, which is the entire duration of Ramadan, the fasting month, this year.
The bazaar, which will be carried out in two zones near the Wisma Geylang Serai building, will be open from 1 pm to 11 pm. Each zone will have a maximum of 20 stalls so as to adhere to the current COVID-19 restrictions.

Apart from the upcoming Ramadan bazaars, the People’s Association (PA) also organised a tender for a “Geylang Serai Hari Raya Shopping Experience” on 1 March. The PA highlighted that it is searching for service providers who are able to give both members of the public as well as retailers a “semblance of the bazaar (as it was) during the pre-COVID-19 days”.
Of course, these providers will have to meet sanitisation requirements, and they will be required to adhere to the COVID-19 safe management measures as well.
PA also revealed that with regards to entry to this event, vaccination-differentiated safe management measures will be put in place.
The association concluded by emphasising their aim of the bazaar, which is to offer “a safe, measured and pleasant” experience for those attending through the arrangement of “thematic stalls and a trade mix” that are “closely associated with Ramadan and Hari Raya”.
