The Real Reason Why Old Changi Hospital is Haunted (Scary!)

Pulau Tekong, St. John’s Island, Bukit Brown Cemetery, Old Changi Hospital – all of these places are well-known for being “haunted”, with many chilling ghost stories passed down from generation to generation.

But the most famous (or infamous) one of all is definitely the Old Changi Hospital.

Haunted Changi

Just a bit of history about this place: back in the 1940s, it was captured by Japanese forces and used as a healthcare facility for prisoners-of-war during World War II.

But instead of being used to treat POWs, the hospital was reportedly used as a torture chamber to get information out of them.

There have been rumours that even until today, you can hear screams echo throughout the corridors of the hospital late at night.

After the war, the hospital was eventually passed to the Ministry of Health, which opened it to the public but because it was situated on a hill, it was difficult for both patients and healthcare personnel to move around using the steep flights of stairs.

Old Changi Hospital Today

This led to the Old Changi Hospital being vacant to this day. Shortly after its abandonment, the derelict building became one of the most popular spots in Singapore for ghost sightings.

A photo taken by Instagram user mohobos went viral back in December 2014 because of what it happened to capture in the background.

This led to the Old Changi Hospital being vacant to this day. Shortly after its abandonment, the derelict building became one of the most popular spots in Singapore for ghost sightings.

The hospital and its ghostly reputation was even used as a set for the 2010 mockumentary Haunted Changi, and apparently it was such a harrowing experience that some of the filmmakers and crew swore never to come back.

So after knowing more about this place, it’s up to you to decide: Old Changi Hospital, haunted or not?
