What does it take to make a great movie? Maybe all you have to do is to throw various movie stars into a movie and it’ll naturally turn wonderful…right?
No.
Netflix’s latest star-studded movie can prove that.
Before you read on, do take note that this article may contain some spoilers.
Everything About Red Notice, The New Star-Studded Movie in Netflix With Lots of Negative Reviews
If you are looking for a 90s-vibe action-comedy movie with lots of twists and turns, Red Notice may pique your interest, for it’s trending #1 in Netflix Singapore.
This typical heist movie that features various stars such as Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnso has gathered various negative reviews through many movie rating sites.
A review even called the movie, a “heist movie for dummies”. However, you may be wondering:
Is the Movie Really that Bad?
It depends on who you ask. According to Rotten Tomatoes, movie critics gave the movie a 39% rating while the audiences gave the movie a 92% rating.
Critics described the movie to have no personality, dull and limp while the audiences enjoy the movie because of The Rock and Ryan’s witty lines. Looks like we know who have been carrying the plot.
The plot is predictable but not hard to watch – you don’t need to be a genius to understand the story. At the same time, the two-hour long screwball heist action comedy can be a little draggy at times.
A critic on Youtube also called the movie “a five-minute-break movie”. That means you are able to take a five to ten-minute break from the movie, come back to it and not miss a thing. Because there’s nothing important in the movie.
This is such a shame considering how $200 million was used to make this movie.
$200 Million Movie
Red Notice is also one of the most expensive movies that’s ever made on Netflix (it was initially planned for a theatrical release but – you’ve guessed it -COVID-19 struck); much more than the $21.4 million that was spent on Squid Game.
According to Screenrant, a large portion of the $200 million was used to secure Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson. They were each paid $20 million to be in the movie.
Rawson Marshall Thurber was also paid $10 million to write and direct the movie.
Additionally, the movie was also affected by COVID-19 and it had to be halted completely mid-production. With various setbacks and delays, the budget of the movie kept increasing until it was finally released.
