There’s no place like home.
Even though many of us have grown tired of our abodes after spending what feels like decades cooped up in it during the Covid-19 pandemic, there really is no place like home.
Friends will come and go, the name of your employer may change over the years, but your home will always be there waiting for you at the end of the day.
So, if your home makes you feel uncomfortable, for any reason, that’s not an issue you can easily sweep under the rug.
Jalan Besar Rental Flat Allegedly Not Repaired Despite Multiple Appeals & MP Visit
A Jalan Besar resident has complained about a lack of urgency on the part of the authorities as damages in her rental flat have not been fixed despite her making multiple appeals.
The woman detailed her grievances in a Facebook post on Tuesday (29 Sep).
The post has since been removed.
In her post, the woman claimed she reported damages that she found in her rental flat to the Housing and Development Board (HDB) in June this year.
The damages included broken tiles which she had to cover with carboard boxes, making it dangerous to move around the house.
The gate’s metal loop lock was also broken, leaving behind sharp points which are surely a safety hazard.
Part of what appeared to be her bathroom door was also damaged.
A month later, before the 2020 general election, an officer named Mr Lim visited her house and took photos of the damages she reported.
Mr Lim reportedly told her that repairs would begin as early as August as he was aware she had a three-month-old baby and that the damages posed a risk.
Then, Jalan Besar MP Denise Phua visited her house during her election walkabout, and had her assistant take down the resident’s particulars as well as details of the damage.
That sounds great right? The authorities sprung into action upon appeal.
Except it’s been three months since she made her appeal and nothing has been done.

Now, the resident’s baby is 5-months-old and is learning to crawl, which means she could easily head to the area with broken tiles if left unattended.
Delay in Repairs Due to Shortage of Workers
Speaking to MS News, MP Phua said that she has made several appeals to HDB to initiate repairs for the Jalan Besar flat.
She explained that her first appeal was unsuccessful as there was a shortage of workers due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The MP said she appealed once again to HDB on 20 Sep, adding that she would inform the resident of the appeal’s result.
Let’s hope that the resident’s flat is all fixed up before that little baby learns to walk.
