It would appear that driving Grab/Uber these days is a surefire way to get rich. You know, we keep hearing our friends say that their cousin’s classmate’s uncle became a multi-millionaire by driving Grab/Uber or something.
(It’s an exaggeration, sheesh. I better say this before you guys attempt to stone me)
With the recent release of UberFLASH, there have been rumours of drivers earning up to $2000 a week. And it would appear that this rumour has been confirmed by our local newspaper.
According to the report, “exceptional drivers” have been earning more than $2200 a week. Oh and, we’re talking about take-home salary here! In other words…
…That’s approximately $8800 a month!
Well, but they did not mention how many exceptional drivers there are. For all we know, it’s just one person, eh?
But still, $8800 a month is an impressive amount of money. Heck, that’s enough to fund my backpacking trip around Europe!
As usual, netizens are in an uproar regarding the news.
Just like what I was saying just now, maybe it’s selective reporting at work here. We could very well be talking about the top percentile of drivers here…
Then there’s this user, confirming that he has seen drivers earning $2.7K a week…
And then the usual funny, sarcastic fella from every thread(Hehe).
And those who can’t wait to quit their job to become a driver.
It is true that with UberFLASH, drivers might be able to get more passengers. But I really don’t understand how someone can earn more than $2.2K a week driving Uber. Well, maybe it’s because I don’t understand how the system works.
Call me a sceptic, but until I can find a driver who can explain to me how they can earn $2.2K a week, I think I’ll stick to writing articles and translation for a living.
