Taiwanese Actress Ruby Lin Flamed Online For Not Wearing Bra to Kids’ Event

You may be familiar with the Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin, from the series of popular Netflix shows she recently starred in.

For example, she starred in Light the Night (also known as Blue Hour), which had a successful 3-part run on the mega video streaming site in 2021.

More recently, she was also the female protagonist in Copycat Killer, another show which did well on Netflix.

Now, however, the 47-year-old actress is setting tongues wagging for other less glamourous reasons. In particular, an alleged wardrobe malfunction at a kids’ event.

Here is what happened.

Ruby Lin Is Accused of Not Wearing a Bra to a Kids’ Event

Earlier this week, videos of Lin attending a kids’ event promoting what appears to be baby products (such as strollers) started making rounds on the internet.

Not because the kids were cute or the products were good, but because of what the actress was wearing.

Or…should we say, was not wearing.

In one of the videos posted on Weibo (which is China’s popular microblogging social media site), Lin can be seen wearing a light pink off-shoulder pantsuit.

While interacting with the host and the child, she squats next to a child seated in a stroller.

What caught the attention of netizens is how from that angle, there were some protrusions on the front of Lin’s outfit, at her chest area.

Do you spot the offending dots in the image above?

Unsurprisingly, some netizens suspected that the actress was not wearing a bra at the event and took up arms against the showing of her “nipples” during an event with kids around.

Several of the comments left on the videos circulating on the internet were critical of Lin, with some even going to the extent of saying that they “hate” the actress.

If the whole fiasco was really a publicity stunt to draw eyeballs, then it is not inconceivable that netizens were enraged about such unbecoming behaviour.

Netizens have previously harshly criticised other female entertainers who have purportedly shown their nipples in public. Take, for example, Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai.

She set some disapproving tongues wagging earlier this year when some pictures from her Ugly Beauty concert tour came to light.

The offence? Tsai was wearing a long purplish dress with a thigh-high slit and what appeared to be an image of a naked woman’s body on the dress (and yes, with nipples visible).

In that incident, Tsai’s manager eventually confirmed to the Taiwanese media outlets that the image of the woman was not Tsai’s, and she was not actually flashing the audience with her outfit.

And last year, Chinese actress Zhao Lu Si set netizens talking when she appeared on the red carpet at a jewellery event with her nipple pasties showing. Quite an unfortunate incident for the young actress, who is known for her sweet and innocent image.

While the name of the event was not listed in the Weibo post, Lin’s faux pas may have occurred at an event for the baby stroller brand Nuna, which Lin is known to have promoted back in 2019.

The Ruby Lin Situation May Be a Misunderstanding After All

However, was it really the case that the actress was not wearing a bra at a public event for a product which she appeared to be modelling for?

That seems to be a bit of a stretch. After all, the actress has been in the entertainment for some time and has carved a decent name for herself, so there may not be a need to resort to such tactics to gain the media’s attention.

Indeed, this was what certain netizens appeared to be thinking when they posted comments defending Lin.

One of the comments was spotted saying that the protrusions near Lin’s chest area may have been the result of her clothes folding over while she was bent down.

That could be plausible, given that the protrusions appeared to disappear from view the moment Lin stood up to talk to the host.

In the image below, taken from the video when Lin was standing upright, the two dots are nowhere to be seen.

That is the same situation even when Lin turned slightly away from the camera to face the host while chatting with him. No “nipples” in sight from a side view, either.

There may also be other reasonable explanations as to why there were protrusions on Lin’s chest when she was squatting next to the baby.

Some netizens also left comments speculating that the protrusions could have been a trick of the eye or that the clothes were not properly ironed before the actress wore them.

Perhaps the actress should have stuck with a safer wardrobe choice which, though might not show off her svelte figure as much, would also not be showing “other things” that could raise the ire of netizens.

Whatever the real reason, one thing’s for sure. The stroller company did get the recognition (and possibly more) it bargained for.
