A School Once Told Students That Those Who Gained More Than 2KG Over CNY Will Get Punished

Many of us know Chinese New Year as another name: the season of letting loose. The Keto diet, the daily exercise regime, the intermittent fasting; all these will be left until after the Chinese New Year season to be worried about.

But this school didn’t want that to happen and decide to take drastic action to “encourage” students from getting fat.

School Warns Student About Getting Fat Over CNY

According to South China Morning Post, Hangzhou No 3 Middle School told students not to get fat over CNY in 2019.

Those whose weight increases by 2KG or more when they return to school for the new semester will be punished.

Their punishment?

They’ll have to do a daily run every day for the new semester.

The students were made to weigh themselves a day before CNY.

And when they’re back from their holidays, they’ll have to weigh themselves again.

It All Started With a Weighing Scale in the Shopping Mall

So who thought up of this devilish idea?

Apparently, this idea was thought up by a teacher in the school, Chen Wei.

He said that he was walking around a shopping mall when he saw a weighing scale.

And that was when the idea occurred to him.

He wanted the students to have an awareness of the risks of putting on more weight after CNY.

Reactions To The Move

One of the students felt that it was almost mission impossible. He felt that people typically eat a lot during the holiday period and exercised lesser.

However, another more optimistic dude, we’ll call him Hopeful05, said there’s nothing to be scared of.

And one student made a CNY-resolution:

“The food they serve in the school canteen is really tasty, I eat five people’s portions almost every day.

“I must control my portions, I will try to limit my meals to two or three bowls of food.”

Netizens, on the other hand, were of two minds about it.

Some felt that it was a great move and that it’ll make students more aware of their physical health.

Others, however, pointed out that at the age of thirteen and fourteen, their bodies are still growing.

Which means their weight tends to fluctuate around quite a bit.

Although That’s Not Necessary a Bad Thing

Because no matter whether you’re within the healthy range or overweight, exercising is always a good thing to do.

This move could also be done in response to China’s obesity problem.

They already have the highest number of obese kids in the entire world, and a study in 2017 predicted that the number of obese kids in China could hit 50 million by 2030 if nothing is done.

Other moves implemented by the Chinese schools include mandatory one or two weeks of military training at the start of every school year for high school students.

And mass callisthenics exercises every morning.

In other news, a company decided to go the carrot instead of the stick way by rewarding employees for successfully losing weight.
