Everyone knows how house visiting is the norm during CNY.
You go to one house, you eat. You go to another house, you eat some more.
Over time, the amount of rubbish accumulated in each house just kept on increasing.
As the Chinese would say, “眼不见为净” (if you don’t see it, it’s not there).
So people just kept on throwing their rubbish into the rubbish chute.
And it just so happens that the rubbish chute of Blk 403B in Fernvale Lane of Sengkang decided to take a CNY break.
Affected residents said that on the 15th, which was the eve of CNY, it was already impossible to dispose rubbish through the chute from the second floor.
Some intense spring cleaning going on here.
By 18 Feb 2018, which is the third day of CNY, the rubbish had already piled up to the third floor, according to Channel 8 News.
After four days of residing in the chute, you can pretty much guess how pleasing the smell of the rubbish was (note sarcasm).
Since rubbish can no longer be thrown into the chute, residents took it down to the first floor and just placed them at the common bin.
After investigations, it has been found that the motor of the rubbish compressor was not functioning properly.
As of 1:00 p.m. on 18 February 2018, the problem has been resolved.
This incident just shows how we shouldn’t take anything for granted and complain when something’s not going right.
Yes, the rubbish chute should be working just fine, but things happen.
Case in point: MRT breakdown
Just so you know, there are people working on a Sunday during the festive period to handle your rubbish (literally)!
