This is Raeesah Khan.
She’s an accomplished young woman, including being the youngest MP voted into Parliament at the tender age of 27 years old.
Not that she really cares about that prestige right now since she’s probably too busy trying to get things up and running within Sengkang GRC.
Did we mention that she’s now pregnant too? Apparently, it’s a “parliament baby” since she announced the happy news on the first day of Parliament on 24 Aug 2020.
Just before she was elected into parliament, she was embroiled in a controversy which saw two police reports lodged against her past social media posts.
And now, there’s finally a conclusion to this controversy.
Sengkang MP Raeesah Khan Received Stern Warning for Her Social Media Comments
On 17 Sep 2020, it was reported that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has concluded their investigations.
The verdict?
A stern warning was issued to WP MP Raeesah Khan for her inflammatory Facebook posts made back in 2018 and earlier this year.
“The police have completed their investigations and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, have issued a stern warning to Ms Raeesah Khan for the offence of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race.” – Singapore Police Force
It was added that the warning was also issued based on “an additional offence of contempt by scandalising the court” on her 2018 post.
Back in 2018, she had written a post regarding the City Harvest Church ruling. Earlier this year in Feb 2020, she wrote a post alleging that Singapore’s law enforcement discriminates against the minority.
When the police reports were lodged, SPF said that they’ve consulted with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and were advised that “offence of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race under Section 298A of the Penal Code is disclosed”.
She could’ve been jailed for up to three years, fined, or both for her actions.
Reasons
Now, if you’re wondering, is it necessary for a 2018 post? Here’s what the SPF has to say about the two social media posts:
- She allegedly said that Singapore law enforcement authorities discriminated against citizens
- Alleged that rich Chinese and white people are treated differently under the law
- For the City Harvest Church ruling, she alleged that Singapore jailed minorities mercilessly, harassed mosque leaders but let corrupt church leaders who stole millions walk free
- She also insinuated that someone has been paid to let them walk (corruption).
Meanwhile, the man who leaked Khan’s Facebook post and gloated about it online was also issued a stern warning “for harassment and posting comments on social media with a deliberate intent to wound religious or racial feelings.”
The SPF is also not taking any further actions against Xiaxue.
