In July this year, former Mediacorp actor Shane Pow was sentenced to five weeks in prison after pleading guilty to a drink-driving charge.
He was also fined $6,000 and disqualified from driving for five years from his date of release, as it was his second offence.
Naturally, netizens hated on Pow because he was a celebrity who faltered, but life has looked a lot rosier for the 31-year-old ever since he got out of prison.
First, he joined Mdada, a successful online sales platform, as a live streamer.
Now he’s got his first acting gig since completing his sentence.
Shane Pow Acting in New Mediacorp Telemovie & is Prepared to ‘Be Scolded’
Missed Pow on your television screens? Well, you might not have to wait too long for his return.
It appears that Pow will star in a new Mediacorp-produced telemovie, which is a continuation of the Channel 8 drama My Star Bride.
The show was so popular it even attracted viewers in China, after clips of the show were shared on Douyin (TikTok in China) and crossed 100 million views.
In the show, a village girl leaves her hometown in Vietnam to search for her long-lost sister in Singapore, but ends up attracting the attention of a crippled but once successful and arrogant lawyer.
The show also explores the cultural barriers between the two Singaporean and Vietnamese families.
The Vietnamese woman, Fangcao, is played by Chantelle Ng, while her love interest, Zhong Shijie is played by Xu Bin. Chantelle has become an overnight star with this drama.
Pow will play Wenwu, Fangcao’s childhood friend and neighbour, who may or may not get entangled in the duo’s complicated love affair. Being part of a love triangle, Pow said he’s prepared for a tongue-lashing.
“I think there’s a big chance I’d be scolded, so I’ve prepared myself for it,” he said in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao.
The telemovie will premiere on 1 Feb next year at 8pm on Channel 8 and meWATCH.
Terminated From Mediacorp Due to Drink-driving Charge
The drink-driving charge, as well his breach of safe distancing measures last year, drove Mediacorp to part ways with Pow earlier this year.
He was also part of the now-infamous birthday celebration at actor Terence Cao Guohui’s home last October, where several celebrities were caught flouting COVID-19 rules.
Pow later apologised to his friends, fans, and family for his errant behaviour, and expressed his regret.
He also thanked Mediacorp and his managers for all the help given over the years.
