What would you do if the quarters you are quarantined in surprised you with cockroaches?
You can’t run and you can’t hide. Moving rooms does not seem to help, and no one saves you from your plight.
The only thing left to do is recount your tales on Facebook and warn your other comrades out there.
And this is what happened really happened, right here in Singapore.
What Happened: The First Room
On Friday (November 27), a lady took to Facebook detail her SHN experience in Singapore.
After flying from Japan in the wee hours of the morning, she checked in to her first room on the 26th floor at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, 24 November. At about 4am after her shower, her horror began. She saw a small cockroach on her table, and spotted two more on her beside the table.
The lady killed the cockroaches and requested for a room change, which she was granted immediately.
Her 2nd room was on the 30th floor.
It didn’t end there.
The Second Room
After a pleasant day of living normally and keeping the surroundings clean, she saw yet another cockroach on the bathroom doorway at 7pm the next day.
Again, she killed the cockroach and called the reception. This time, however, they responded by leaving a can of Baygon at her door.
She wasn’t happy with this and complained, prompting them to offer to shift her to her 3rd room.
At this point, her friend advised her to call the SHN hotline, but they apologised and said there was nothing they could do. The hotel then sent a Korean employee over (which she suspects might be an attempt to appease her since she is Korean herself) who told her they would inspect and rid the room of cockroaches (with Baygon) first before she moved in.
When prompted to explain the situation, the employee allegedly told the poster that the hotel was rushed to host SHN and had yet to bring in pest control, but they would be coming the next day.
The Third Room
And so she entered her 3rd room on the 22nd floor, reeking of Baygon as she put it. She “sucked it up” and slept through the night, and proceeded to have another normal day until, yup, another three cockroaches at 4am when she woke up to use the bathroom. She decided to start taking photographic evidence.
Again, she called the reception; again they offered her another room. At this point, she said she was “beyond frustrated” (in caps), since it was quite apparently a hotel-wide infestation, and not going to get better by changing rooms.
The Fourth Room
The hotel manager called the next morning to offer her a new room that they had pest control inspect and work on. So she agreed and called the SHN hotline again, which brought her better news this time. The staff were sympathetic and asked her to fill out a form, and they would try to accommodate a hotel change.
When she moved to her 4th room on the 21st floor, she inspected her room immediately and (surprise!) found a small one on the bathroom wall.
She called the reception who advised her to call the SHN hotline again and attempt to speed up the change of hotels.
The Final Room
The reception called her again later on and offered her a room that they claimed was more spacious and well lit, which may deter cockroaches. So she moved in and checked out the walls.
She stayed put, but sleeps with the lights on so she won’t face anything in her sleep.
The lady ends the post saying that the hotel should not have served guests if they were not ready, especially since those serving SHN all pay a fixed sum of S$2,000 even it the hotel subjected them to a more unpleasant experience.
