Singtel Might Lose Customers but Gained Many FB Likes & Created The Most Engaged Post

Yesterday morning, Singtel fibre broadband users woke up to a news so devastating, they had to resort to going out for a breather: broadband was down. It could have been the second closest thing to the end of the world, with the first being both broadband and mobile data down.

This morning, most of us woke up with a relief—the Internet is back, and the world is back to normal.

The disruption started at about 8:45 a.m. yesterday (3 December 2016) morning, and continued until this morning. According to the Singtel Facebook Page, whereby even mainstream media got their information from, at 1:30 a.m., 20% of affected customers has their Internet back.

By 7:00 a.m., almost 80% has got back their Internet.

Well, on the other hand, something pretty trivial but interesting happened.

Other than the fact that people might be reminded of this dreadful downtime when they see Nathan Hartono (who, unfortunately, was on the cover image of Singtel Facebook Page), Singtel Facebook Page, in just 24 hours, gained many new Likes.

Less than 24 hours ago, when the disruption just occurred, the number of Singtel Facebook Likes is 390,000+. Now, it’s at 407,778.

Just take a look at this graph and you can see how many more Likes they’ve garnered in mere one day.

And of course, they created one of the most engaging posts as well. This, to be exact.

Think about the most engaged Singapore post you’ve come across in Facebook: does it have more than 10K comments? Or even 5K?

Well, as of 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, which is about 23 hours after this post went online, it has garnered over 32K comments. There’re so many new comments that after you’ve read one, one new comment would pop out.

Maybe it’s a crisis for the PR team, but the social media team is sure having a field day.
