According to South Korea reports, actress Song Yoo-Jung has passed away at the tender age of 26 years old.
Up & Coming Actress
Song debuted in the South Korean entertainment industry as the model for a cosmetic brand before debuting her acting career in MBC’s Golden Rainbow back in 2013.
She went on to appear in shows like Make Your Wish, School 2017 and Dear My Name.
That, coupled with her appearance in music videos and commercials for coffee, cosmetics and ice-cream brands, led to Song climbing up the ladder of fame.
In 2019, she had reportedly signed with Sublime Artist Agency.
The agency is home to some of South Korea’s most well-known artists, including Rain and Song Kang Ho, and she was expected to take a further step in her acting career.
Unfortunately, all of that was cut short with her death.
Sudden Death
Song reportedly died on 23 Jan 2021, and her death was confirmed by her agency in a short statement:
“Song Yoo Jung suddenly passed away on January 23.”
Her cause of death, however, was not revealed.
Several media outlets had initially reported that the actress has taken her own life, but these reports were removed shortly after.
The South Korean police reportedly said the initial investigations revealed that she had not suffered blunt force trauma. Investigations into her death are still ongoing.
Her funeral will take place from 25 Jan 2021 in the funeral hall of the Gangnam branch of the Seoul Medical Center
Meanwhile, netizens have been flooding Song’s official Instagram account to offer their condolences, asking her to rest in peace.

South Korea Celebrity Deaths
South Korea is no stranger to celebrities being taken away before their time.
In 2017, Kim Jong-hyun from popular boy band Shinee took his own life. According to his suicide note, the singer suffered from “devouring” depression.
Last year, 25-year-old Choi Jin-ri, known widely by her stage name Sulli, hung herself at her home in Seongnam.
Sulli was an active member of girl group f(x) before going on hiatus due to health issues. She similarly struggled with severe depression.
The same year, Sulli’s close friend Goo Hara committed suicide.
In Sep 2020, Oh Hye-In, who began her acting career in 2011, unfortunately passed on after she was found unconscious at her home in Incheon at 5am.
She was found by a friend who immediately called for an ambulance.
It was suspected that she had taken her own life.
