If you’re travelling to South Korea this weekend for a 10-day trip through the VTL scheme, you should be wondering if you’d be going for a staycation in the land of kimchi.
Yesterday, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Centre (KDCA) announced that all travellers to South Korea, regardless of vaccination status, will need to serve a 10-day quarantine.
This measure will start tomorrow (3 Dec) and will last for two weeks. All travellers going into the country will also be tested for the Omicron variant
Citizens and foreigners on long-term stay are allowed to quarantine at home.
Foreigners on short-term stay, however, will need to be quarantined at a temporary facility designated by the government. This begs the question: does that mean that travellers from Singapore will have to be quarantined, since we’re essentially “foreigners on short-term stay”?
Well, the answer is out after about 24 hours of uncertainty.
Confirmed: VTL S’pore Travellers to South Korea Won’t Need Serve 10-Day Quarantine
The South Korea Embassy in Singapore has just confirmed that travellers using the VTL from Singapore to South Korea will not have to undergo quarantine.
They said in an update on their website, “VTL travel arrangement would proceed without change at the moment. Any change(s) to the policy would be informed on this website. Given that the COVID-19 situation remains volatile, we advise all travellers to check our website regularly for the latest border control measures prior to travel.”
Singapore and South Korea had launched VTL flights between both countries which took off on 15 Nov 2021.
In total, six flights were operated by Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Seoul every week, while Korean Air operates four flights from Seoul to Singapore.
Five Omicron variant COVID-19 cases have been detected within South Korea, according to the KDCA.
This includes a fully-vaccinated couple who travelled to South Korea from Nigeria, two family members and one friend.
