Role models. Tutors. Caretakers. Lodgings. Parents take care of everything for their young and impressionable children, and in return, the little ones worship their parents.

“Oh Daddy,” you’ll probably see a young lass crooning to a much older man on the streets. “Scold me more Daddy.”

Oops, wrong Daddy here. But you get my drift:

To a child, their parents are everything.

And that’s also why this case leaves a rather vile taste in one’s mouth, even more so than your regular molestation case…

Because it ruined everything we’ve learnt and believed thus far.

S’pore Dad Jailed For Molesting Daughter Multiple Times While Trying To Fix Marriage

According to TODAYOnline, everything began around May last year (2018).

The girl was just nine years old at the time.

According to reports, the father had retrieved her from her nanny’s home that evening before heading off for a drink with his friends. His wife was believed to be overseas at that time.

After returning to their flat, he entered the girl’s room to take some clothes from a shared wardrobe. Noticing that she was asleep on the bed, he then lay beside her and hugged her from behind.

“Feeling sexually aroused, the accused proceeded to line his underwear with tissue paper,” Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Chong Yong told the court.

He hugged the girl from behind again and this time, proceeded to rub his private parts against her.

He then headed to the toilet to wash up and take a shower.

Between May and September last year, the man would violate her modesty in the same exact style on at least two other occasions. They are believed to have occurred while his wife was abroad.

A Daughter’s Dilemma

According to TODAYOnline, the girl said that she was awoken by her father’s ‘gestures’ on each occasion, but kept quiet as she was scared. And to prevent any future ‘imminent’ quarrels between her parents, she failed to report the incidents to her mother.

Until August last year (2018).

While traipsing back home together, the girl recounted how some boys in school had joked about male and female private parts touching each other.

She then told her mother that it was “something like Daddy did” to her.

A Mother And A Wife’s Dilemma

A long time ago, a bearded old man asked me a question:

“If your significant other was trapped in a blazing house with your mother, who would you save first?”

And while it was technically an old joke that has long been cracked (I’ll save the fire first), it does relate to the dilemma this particular mother must be facing:

One’s her husband, one’s her daughter. Who does she side with?

But the headline’s there for a reason, and so you know the answer.

A month after the revelation broke out, the mother went to the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) for assistance with her marriage. And it was there that she revealed the horrible truth:

Her daughter had been molested… by the little girl’s own father.

Suffice it to say; Aware notified the Ministry of Social and Family Development, which proceeded to file a police report.

Sentencing

In court, DPP Chong argued that the man had committed a “highly intrusive sexual act”, and had abused his position of trust and planned his crimes.

“The accused struck only after the victim had already gone to sleep, and at times when there were no other adults at home whom the victim could turn to for help. The victim was especially vulnerable, and the accused exploited his high degree of access to her,” he added.

He requested for at least 23 months’ jail and three strokes of the cane.

In mitigation, the man’s lawyer TM Sinnadurai informed the court that his client has turned up at the National Addictions Management Services for his drinking problems.

The man conceded that he was incapable of controlling himself when drunk.

Mr Sinnadurai also read out a handwritten letter from the man’s wife, who pleaded for leniency and said that it was not “his true character”.

“Even my daughter still misses him even though she has been separated from him… We are working very hard to make our marriage work and be responsible parents for our daughter,” she wrote.

“All I can say is that my husband is a good man and I believe he will remain a good person till the end.”

The father, a 44-year-old administrative assistant, was eventually sentenced to one year and nine months behind bars, as well as three strokes of the cane.

For molestation of a minor under 14, the man could have been imprisoned for up to five years, fined or caned, or any combination of the three.
