That’s what happened to Facebook User Vanessa Tan.
Had To Give Up Her Dog For Adoption
On 2 Nov 2018, Facebook user Vanessa Tan shared her experience on the social media platform.
She said that about a month ago, she had to give up her dog, Lily, for adoption.
Her family was originally living in a condominium but they had to shift into an HDB flat for personal reasons.
As Lily isn’t an HDB-approved dog, the family had to give her up for adoption. Previously, her dog was almost taken away by the AVA, which was why she decided to look for a good home for Lily.
S’porean Man Offered To Adopt Lily
A Singaporean man named Marcus contacted her and offered to adopt her dog.
He claimed to be living in a condo with two helpers, whom, he assured, will help to look after her.
After a house visit, Vanessa saw that everything seems alright and decided to go ahead with the adoption.

Lily is Sick, Requires A Visit To The Vet
On the last weekend of October, Vanessa received a text from Marcus. He said that Lily was sick and needed to visit the vet.
She made an appointment with the vet and told Marcus she’ll pay for the bill.
However, he didn’t show up, saying that he’s in reservist.
At that time, Vanessa was paying for Lily’s food and necessities despite Marcus having already adopted the dog.

After failing to find Marcus at his home, she managed to get in touch with the people who’ve been taking care of the dog.
Initially, Marcus had tried to spin a story about how the dog ‘got lost’.

However, when she threatened to get the authorities involved, he decided to confess.
He claimed that his mother had said she doesn’t want the dog in the house. His mother threatened to cut his phone line if the dog was still around the house, which was why he tied the dog at the void deck.
He was planning to pick the dog up in the evening but she had disappeared when he reached the area.
He was afraid of Vanessa’s reaction, which was why he did what he did.
And when asked to return the dog’s items, he claimed to have thrown it away.

He apologised and asked for a second chance.
However, Vanessa decided to go ahead with the report.

Adopter Unremorseful According To Previous Dog Owner
Vanessa claimed on 4 Nov that even after all that has happened, Marcus still isn’t remorseful.
She said that he was going on with life as though “nothing has happened”, and that he has been “denying his actions” to others.
The police report against Marcus is still ongoing and she is going to pursue the case.
As for Lily? She’s now in a good home.
