For those of us who grew up in the era of Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin and Kit Chan, you’ll be psyched to know that another Singaporean singer might just be joining the ranks of these Singaporean singers who made us proud.
Chinese singers all around the world have made their way to Taiwan and China in order to further their singing career, including our very own Stefanie Sun and JJ Lin who have managed to make a name for themselves in these countries.
Given the increasing number of singing competitions taking place in China, the chances of new singers making their way into the market have increased as well. And that was how this Singapore singer managed to make his way in.
His name is Nathan Hartono and he became known when he won the Teenage icon singing competition back in 2005.
Many who heard him sing have thought he could only sing English songs and those who hear him talk in Mandarin might agree. But don’t judge too fast because, hey, he just got Jay Chou as a mentor!
The Voice
Are you familiar with the singing competition, 中國新歌聲? A panel of judges will have to decide if they want to select a competitor for their teams based on his/her voice.
The panel of judges on the competition is Jay Chou, Harlem Yu, Na Ying and Wang Feng, all megastars and well-known singers themselves, and all pressed the button for our home-grown singer.
Impressing them with his strong command of the English language, voice and looks, he eventually chose Jay Chou to be his mentor for the competition.
Watch how he nailed it in the video below.
