Case in point, I am one of those fresh grads who isn’t working full-time until recently. Well, in my defence, I was backpacking around Asia because I wanted to see the world with my own eyes.
So yeah, I believe I contributed to the fact that fewer grads are working full-time.

Anyway, let’s get back on topic, shall we?
According to the results of a joint graduate employment survey released on 26 Feb, the median of the take-home pay for fresh grads in 2017 is $3400, which is higher than the $3300 in 2016.
Those with degrees in business, economics and computing saw the biggest increase in salary. For example, BUS business administration graduates earned up to $3500 last year, which is much higher than the $3100 in 2016.
And get a load of this. According to the survey, approximately 9 out of 10 fresh grads found themselves a job within 6 months from their final examinations!
Although impressive, there is actually a dip from the 89.5% in 2016 to the 88.9% in 2017.
And amongst these graduates, those in full-time employment dropped from 79.9% in 2016 to 78.4% in 2017.
In 2017, 2.4% of fresh grads went into freelance work, which is an increase from the 1.7% in 2016— and I’m proud to say that I’m one of those in the 2.4% #livingthedream

According to Mr David Leong, managing director of recruitment firm PeopleWorldwide Consulting: “Many will choose either to further their education or go for a long overdue holiday before working.”
Mr David Leong also added that there are those who chose to do freelance and/or become an entrepreneur as these options “better control of time and worklife balance”.
When I was travelling, I was also doing freelance work on the go. This ensured that I wouldn’t lose touch with the job market while doing what I wanted.
At the end of the day, we have to know what we want in life. For me, I want to travel the world and go to places people wouldn’t usually go. And for that to come true, I’ll have to work for the money and eventually—have enough passive income to travel using this sum of money.

And I believe you guys must also be working towards your very own dreams and goals. No matter how much we earn or if we work full-time or not, I think it’s important that we don’t regret our decisions many years down the road!
Cheers!
