Have you ever encountered a situation where since you’re already committing a crime, you might as well just commit another?

No?

Well, for this group of partygoers, it doesn’t really seem that they cared about the law anyway when they broke into a coffee shop and “just so happen” to leave with S$50-worth of beer.

And all of this is done with a full bladder to boot!

Breaking and entering just for a toilet break? Nah… might as well steal some beer too!

On Jun 6 at around 3am, the coffee shop at Senoko Loop industrial area had some unwanted visitors.

According to the shop owner, 44-year-old Mr Lim, he was notified by his workers the following morning that the CCTV in the shop seems to have been tempered by someone.

Suspecting theft, he immediately headed to his shop to find out more.

Based on the CCTV footage, a man and two women were seen prying open the window at around 3:28am and entering the coffee shop.

Illegally, I might add.

The guy climbed through the window and went behind the cashier’s counter, seemingly to be looking for something.

He then opened the door to let the two ladies in.

According to Mr Lim, “I believe the women were heading to the toilet.”

As seen on the CCTV footage, the guy has a tattoo on his left leg and is wearing a black face mask.

After unsuccessfully rummaging through the counter, he then left the shop…

…only to return at around 5am to search through the shop some more.

He’s not someone to give up that easily, don’t you think?

Unfortunately, the footage was cut short as he noticed the CCTV and proceeded to pull the plug.

Mr Lim pointed out that the man likely found the beer (worth S$50) in his shop at that point and stole them.

“I took away all the cash and cigarettes when I closed the store. There was only some change in the store, but the thief didn’t take it. He probably couldn’t find anything worth stealing, and finally stole the beer.”

The police issued a statement stating that three men and two women, aged between 17 and 24, were arrested for the burglary.

They managed to identify the suspect in the CCTV footage which led to his arrest and the arrest of the other 4 people.

Anyone involved in burglary can be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail and fined.

They even broke COVID-19 regulations and littering laws

Not that it mattered much especially when they are likely going to be charged with breaking and entering, as well as the burglary.

Mr Lim said that the five people apprehended by the police were also the same few people who constantly party in the parking lot in front of his coffee shop for the past three weeks.

Not only are they in violation of the 2-person-per-gathering rule, but they are also apparently litterbugs too!

“I have found the parking lot to be very dirty several times in the past three weeks. On the day of the incident, I also found a lot of tissues, snacks and beverage packages, as well as peanut shells,” Mr Lim said.

“I guess that this group of people were also in the parking lot when the burglary happened… likely eating, drinking, and chatting all night.”
