Having a baby is always good news for a family.
According to some Chinese superstition, pregnant women are not supposed to tell anybody about it for the first three months.
But this is also supported scientifically, as the baby is more ‘unstable’ during this period and a miscarriage *touch wood* is more likely to happen.
Wouldn’t want to explain that to everyone again eh?
When I was younger, I got hit by my mom when I subtly hinted to my teacher about my mom having a baby in her tummy.
Don’t worry, my younger sibling came out just fine, just as annoying as I expected.
But oh well, lesson learned.
Announcing pregnancy
Just last month, Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun announced her second pregnancy on her social media.
She wedded her Dutch-Indonesian husband Nadim van der Ros in 2011 and gave birth to her son “Little Nadim” the year after.
Before announcing the news, the singer had to take special care to not let the cat out of the bag, according to Yahoo Lifestyle.
Once when she was taking her son on a MRT ride, she had to tell him to not ask for other commuters to give up their seats for her.
The 39-year-old singer shared:
“(His) teacher came up to me and said, oh, today we were talking about the MRT… how we have to give up our seats to the disabled and the pregnant… so he offered ‘my mama has a baby in her belly’… so the whole class knew.”
Aww…
“There was one time we went to take the train… I said, ‘Okay, we’re going to get on the train, don’t ask people to give up their seats for mama’, because we haven’t announced it, right? I have to prep him sometimes for things like that.”
Husbands
The singer also joked about how her husband is treating her better just because she’s carrying a baby.
“Why do I have to be pregnant before he treats me nicely? Why?”
“To all the fathers in the audience, please be good to your wife all the time, not just when she is pregnant,” Sun said in a press conference for her latest album.
Hanging out
When asked about her favourite places to “hang out’, Sun said that she visits kid-friendly places often, like IKEA and Botanic Gardens.
“Sorry, a bit boring,” she said, joking that there was “no need to stalk” her.
Hmm…
Another Singaporean thing
In the press conference on Feb 9, Sun introduced her latest album, “A Dancing Van Gogh”, which was already released in Taiwan last year.
Part of the inspiration for her album title came from her watercolour classes, which she used her SkillsFuture credits for.

Not only her
Homegrown Mandopop king JJ Lin also takes the MRT!
Two years ago, the singer posted on his Instagram several selfies of him taking the MRT and going unnoticed, despite not wearing a mask.
Just look at all these people looking at their phones!
Look up, people, look up!
