Stranger Allegedly Entered Jurong Resident’s Home, Slept in a Room & Even Locked the Door

While Singapore might be famed for our safety regardless of how late it is at night, there are many good reasons why we shouldn’t take it for granted.

Having a stranger accidentally enter your home in the middle of the night (and defecate all over your chairs) because you forgot to lock your front door is one of them for sure.

And if you’re wondering if I’m just giving a hypothetical example, I’m (unfortunately) not.

Erma Othman, a woman living in a Jurong HDB flat with her family, recently uploaded videos on TikTok explaining how exactly such an incident ended up occurring in her house on Thursday (25 August).

What Happened

To start off, Erma recounted how she was sleeping with her husband and their three children in the master bedroom on the day of the incident.

At around 3am in the morning, she said that she heard a sound that was coming from the front door of their house.

Although her husband tried to assure his wife that the sound was “just the wind”, Erma still had her suspicions.

“Something [told] me that it’s not the wind, I [had] a very bad feeling about this, and it was true because the knocking started getting very aggressive,” she mentioned in one of her videos.

Shortly after that, Erma and her husband started to hear sounds suggesting that someone outside was trying to pry their door open, proving that Erma’s suspicions were correct.

The noises also woke the couple’s eldest child, who was left “shaken” after hearing the sounds that the person outside was making.

To that, Erma instructed her son to go back to sleep and told him, “Don’t make a lot of noise, there’s some bad guy outside.”

“When he covered himself with the blanket, the whole blanket was shaking,” she added.

Decided to Open the Door to Grab a Knife

Erma then explained that her husband started to hear the sound of water running when the couple were discussing what they should do next.

“I told my husband, since he’s in the toilet, just quickly go out to the kitchen, take a knife and open the main door and gate,” recalled.

However, after exiting the master bedroom, Erma’s husband saw that the stranger who entered their house had taken off his clothes and placed them on the dining table.

Upon seeing this, her husband decided to open both the front door and gate before taking the man’s clothes and a knife back to the master bedroom.

Police Called, Confirmed that Man Locked the Front Door After Entering

After that, Erma talked about how she called the police.

However, when police officers arrived outside her house, they informed her that the front door of her house had been locked, probably by the same person who entered their house.

This also meant that the stranger was still in the house at that point in time.

“He was in the toilet, he went out and had the bloody cheek and audacity to close [and lock] the main door,” she said.

After they confirmed that the person had returned to the toilet in the house, Erma instructed her husband to unlock the front door and let the police take care of the rest.

Intruder Turned Out to Be Neighbour

After that, it was discovered that the stranger who had entered Erma’s house was actually a neighbour who lived on the ninth floor of the same block.

According to Erma, the neighbour was drunk, which probably contributed to how he ended up entering the wrong house.

But a scare wasn’t the only thing that the neighbour (unintentionally, I hope) left the family with.

“You know what’s the best part? He shat all over my toilet and my dining chairs,” Erma shared.

She also said that she will most likely throw the chairs out.

“Let this be a lesson to always lock your main door… and drink responsibly,” she concluded.

Neighbour Apologised After Incident

After the incident, Erma revealed that the family will not be pressing charges against the man.

The man’s brother also offered to pay for cleaning services afterwards.

However, she declined the offer as the family had already finished cleaning the house by then.

“I’m quite glad that [it turned out to be] a neighbour and not an outsider,” she explained.

“He came down to apologise, so all is good.”

Similar Incident Happened in Braddell Last Year

And this isn’t the first time where an incident like this has happened in Singapore.

In May last year, Facebook user Caleb Tay took to Facebook to share his experience of a topless stranger entering his home when he and his parents were sleeping in their rooms.

In his words, the man literally “barged” into the house and his room afterwards, but thankfully did not take anything valuable with him.

The man also attempted to enter another resident’s house and was later arrested for criminal trespass and suspected drug-related offences.

Under Section 447 of the Penal Code, individuals who are found guilty of criminal trespass may face up to three months’ imprisonment, a maximum fine of $1,500, or both.
