If you’re a lover of local delights, you may not have patronised Subway too often.
Your mouth may recall McDonald’s Nasi Lemak burger, a monstrosity that somehow worked.
Other outlet have incorporated local flavours into their desserts, like KFC has with their Ondeh Ondeh egg tarts.
Subway, however, has never had a sandwich with local flavours. So, even if you liked the food and visited the establishment often, the menu could quickly get boring.
Well, not anymore.
Subway Launches Limited-Edition Rendang Sandwich & Pandan Cookie
Empty your stomach, whip out your phones, prepare a bucket for your soon-to-be salivating mouth, because Subway has launched its very own Rendang Sub!
The new creation will be Subway’s first-ever local flavour.
The sandwich, just like the popular Indonesian dish, will provide a satisfying medley of flavours, with ingredients such as chilli, onion, tumeric, ginger, garlic, dessicated coconut, tamarind, and lemongrass, to name a few.
As always, you can choose your own fresh veggies to go with the sub, but Subway recommends pairing the Rendang-coated beef or chicken with the following for a “flavourful explosion:
- Old English Cheddar Cheese
- Mixed Greens
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Mixed Peppers
- Onions
Oh, but that’s not all.
Subway has also launched a new Pandan cookie, which would be a great sweet and chewy accompaniment to the Rendang sub.
Both items will only be on sale for just over a month, starting from today (21 July) till 28 September.
They will be available at all Subway outlets islandwide and on delivery platforms GrabFood, foodpanda, and Deliveroo.
Here are the prices for the two items:
- Chicken Rendang – $7.30 for 6-inch and $12.30 for a footlong
- Beef Rendang – $7.90 for 6-inch and $12.90 for a footlong
- Pandan cookie – from $1.40
Speaking about their new creations, Samad Mohd Shariff, Subway’s Country Director of Southeast Asia said, “The Rendang Sub and Pandan cookie took us half a year and a half to master and they’ll be the first of many localised options done in response to customers’ growing demand for locally curated flavours.”
First 10,000 Subs Will Be Matched & Donated to Essential Workers
You may already have 20 reasons to purchase a Rendang Sub, but here’s another: the first 10,000 subs purchased will be matched by Subway and donated to staff and volunteers at vaccination centres, testing centres, and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
The large-scale community initiative, which is also Subway’s first, was launched in recognition of the dedication and hard work of frontliners vaccinating and testing residents here.
