I remember the months of February and March like it was yesterday.
Which, all things considered, wasn’t the prettiest. Never forget the two magic words that happened those months.
So many kiasu people, so many instant noodles and sanitation products during that period.
FairPrice even had to limit people to buying 5L of cooking oil and six canned goods, including meat, fish or vegetables.
Still, things have mostly calmed down since those days and FairPrice has taken notice.
Ease On Purchase Limits
Sounds like it’s time for an extra can of luncheon meat.
A FairPrice spokesman said that shopping habits have returned to normal since implementing the purchase limit.
And this is where the good news comes.
FairPrice has adjusted the purchase limits for essential items such as rice, noodles and cooking oil.
“Eh shiok la! That means I can stock up on my New Moon Abalone now, man.”
The keyword here is ‘adjusted’.

To be exact, the limit for toilet paper has been doubled to four-packs while the limit on instant noodles has been increased from two to three packs.
They even lifted those for surgical masks, alcohol swabs and hand sanitisers! Now we can all start laughing at those pesky mask re-sellers.
The canned product limit has also been increased from six to ten.
It’s not just FairPrice doing this.
Cold Storage and Giant supermarkets have also had their purchase limits relaxed. Even the Sheng Siong supermarket chain has relaxed purchase limits for certain categories of essential items.
All in all, things are looking good at the start of Phase One.
Being Safe And Considerate
Still, if there is one thing supermarkets have its crowds of people.
This quickly transforms the area into a coronavirus party house.
FairPrice has taken to protecting its staff and enforcing strict health regulations. Masks are compulsory as well as having to take their temperature twice a day.
Customers are also required to wear masks, encouraged to use hand sanitisers as well as keep to the safe distance markings on the floor.
Places like Dairy Farm also disinfect areas like trolley and basket collection bi-hourly since it’s a ‘high-touch” area.
This might be common sense but please stay at home if you’re sick to not risk infecting others. Don’t waste these supermarkets’ efforts.
Also if you don’t need ten cans of luncheon meat please don’t buy that many. Save some for me too.
