But this incident is pretty interesting.

Taxi Uncle & Rider Arguing Over The Routes to Take

On 17 September 2017,a video of a dispute between a taxi driver and passenger was uploaded onto the Facebook page, Singapore Taxi Driver.

While it was unknown where the incident took place, the argument occurred because the passenger wanted to travel down CTE while the driver insisted that CTE is congested.

Instead, the driver wanted to drive him to his destination via Thomson as it is less congested.

The passenger refused.

It doesn’t make sense to him that the uncle knows CTE is congested when they haven’t even reach the highway.

Despite the uncle insisting that he just came from CTE.

In the end, the uncle wanted to drop him “in the middle of nowhere”, according to the passenger who was recording the entire incident.

Person on Phone Allegedly Told Driver To Settle By Himself

Most probably didn’t notice given how they’re “heated up” about the passenger’s unreasonable attitude but on the video, the uncle was heard saying incredulously, “I settle it myself?”

Even after he tried to explain his circumstances through the phone, it doesn’t seemed to help.

Eventually, the taxi uncle couldn’t take it anymore and unleashed the four-letter word against the passenger.

Mystery Solved: It was a Flat Rate Ride

Typically, taxi drivers don’t fight with customers too much on routes. I mean, why invite trouble, given STOMP and the Internet CSI brigade?

Then we realised that it was a ride under ComfortDelgro’s New Flat Rate scheme.

Now, it all make sense.

Given how the driver don’t earn by meter, it doesn’t make sense for him to travel by a longer route when he gets the same amount of money.

The passenger, on the other hand, just couldn’t trust the driver because he might’ve heard of too many horror stories about taxi drivers who pua stunt.

To be honest though, the flat fare scheme placed both drivers and passengers in a win-win situation.

Both wants to get to a destination fast. The driver can go to his next job quickly and earn more money for the day while the passenger gets to his destination on time.
