It’s very easy to scare people away. I just need to say the word: Math.

In fact, you probably accidentally clicked on this, because math, rather than because you want to. Do you really want to even have a slight chance to like A. Math after reading an article?

A math teacher from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur actually made that happen… make people like math… And he got numbers to prove from his internet following.

How??

Young A. Math teacher viral on the internet

If you told me a clip teaching math can be viral I will say you are crazy, but this clip of him teaching math received 495,000 views on Instagram, with the caption “The reason why I like addmath. Thank you Sir @faithhussein.”:

But it’s not a one-off event either. Here’s him catching a marker with 300,000 views:

Doing the Circle Challenge with 318,000 views:

And in case you think he’s just popular because of random stunts, here’s a clip of him actually teaching math that received 360,000 views:

Fathi Hussein, a young A Math teacher, has already got over 62,000 followers on Instagram, which isn’t hard to understand why when you see him teach.

I have to admit, even after watching how he teaches I still don’t understand what he is saying. Partly because I don’t understand Malay, and another because even if he is teaching in English I still won’t understand. Cause who remembers any of those?

According to MalayMail, he is known for his “fast-talking ways and solving complex equations in a heartbeat”. Though somehow I think there’s translation error somewhere since it doesn’t make sense.

Fathi is also on Astro Tutor TV, an educational channel for Malaysian students, and also uploads videos of himself teaching SPM and PT3 students at Math Clinic, a chain of tuition centres.

Students love him

You can probably already tell from the student responses in the Instagram clips, but here’s more stuff they said in the comments (translated by Malaymail).

“Love this topic”

“This teacher made me obsessed with add maths, I like the way he teaches.”

“This looks so fun, if only there were teachers like this in school during my time, I’d surely get an A but for my SPM I only managed to scrape through.”

“If I attended a tuition class like this back then, I’d definitely score an A.”

Teachers can emulate?

Although using Instagram might sound gimmicky, that’s not the reason he shot to fame. From the videos at least, he constantly smiles and keeps the students engaged with good presentation techniques. He also seems to befriend his students honestly rather than just for work.

It looks more like a case of getting viral because his students love him, rather than his students loving him because Instagram and he is handsome.

This shows something—as long as you can teach in an engaging manner and show passion, the subject itself can be fun no matter what.

But uh… not like I need math right?
