Thai Café Stopped Selling Drinks in These Bags Due to ‘Sensitive Issues’

When it comes to “sensitive issues” surrounding phallic objects, we usually think it’s about more personal matters (*whisper whisper* like erectile dysfunction).

However, this Thai cafe’s phallic “sensitive issues” lie beyond the personal, and into the deep scapes of Internet virility. I mean, virality.

This eatery in Songkhla province, southern Thailand is named Chadeen Cafe. Amongst the thousands of beverage cafes littered all over the country, Chadeen Cafe stands out with its wide offerings of unique and fun drink packaging.

Think comically long, magician’s balloon-type drinks with straws the length of a torso to match, or a handbag-shaped packaging fit to star on the next cover of Vogue.

The Penis-Shaped Issue

However, one of its latest drink packagings has stirred up some controversy, as well as immense internet fame.

It’s a gigantic drink packaging in the shape of a penis.

It is definitely understandable why this…uhm… refreshing angle to drink packaging stirred up so many comments and laughs, garnering so much viral traction.

The shop posted on its Facebook, along with pictures of the bag:

“Don’t stare at it for too long! You won’t be able to bear it! Please, don’t be too serious. Let’s have a laugh. When you have our drinks in hand… everyone will stare at you!”

My burning question is, are you supposed to drink the Thai milk tea with a straw from the top as per usual, or are you supposed to…uhm…bite a hole at the bottom…and drink from there?

The Takedown

However, in spite of the widespread popularity of the packaging, the store has posted an update that it will be discontinuing the bag moving forward because of “sensitive issues”.

“We have to apologise to all customers. We will not sell the [penis] bag anymore. It involves many sensitive issues. Thank you everyone for all your interest and support.”

The reaction to this news was very mixed, with some people agreeing that it would be difficult or awkward for them to have the drink, especially around children, while others mourned the loss of the creative and humorous packaging.

In spite of the untimely departure of the penis drink bags, rest assured that you will still be able to enjoy the rest of Chadeen Cafe’s beverages, ranging from Thai milk tea to frappes topped with huge displays of whipped cream and fruits.
