Spot anything remotely weird? No?

Now, take a look at this.

See the correlation?

Just some context before we continue: the latter image is from the game and movie franchise, Resident Evil. With so many games and movies about the franchise, it’s hard to describe the plot in one sentence: let’s just say that it’s a franchise about zombies.

And zombies need to be created somewhere, right? In the franchise, that honour goes to the Umbrella Corporation.

So, here’s the thing: the Vietnam skincare clinic has the same logo as Umbrella Corporation.

The Umbrella Corporation does secret experiments, including those that include human subjects, in an underground lab. Founded in 1968, it is responsible for a zombie apocalypse, and is often portrayed as the antagonist in the franchise.

In fact, it’s so popular that it used to have an official website that is now not renewed, with the motto of “Preserving the health of the people” and “Science for a comfortable life”. The fictional organization has even been trademarked in real life by the creators of the franchise, a testimonial of how popular it is.

Therefore, it’s not a surprise that when the logo appeared on the Internet, it got viral fast—not only due to the similar logo, but the irony in it.

No doubt the first thought that comes to people’s mind is that it’s a clever marketing campaign by the creators of Resident Evil, but it turns out to be, well a case of a wrong business decision.

According to animenewsnetwork.com, a Canada anime industry news website that has been established for eighteen years, the logo was apparently outsourced, which the company then took the design without knowing that it is also used by a fictional organization that caused the end of the world.

They’ve since removed the logo and issued a statement.

If you can’t read it, here’s what they said:

NOTICE
Ho Chi Minh City – Jun, 5th, 2017

Dear Clients and Partners of Medcare Skin Centre and others of concern;

In the last few days, we have received feedback from the media and community that our logo resembles that of a fictional corporation (Umbrella Corporation) in the movie and game Resident Evil. We are very surprised to receive such feedback from the community.

We are very sorry the situation has occurred and is working internally to find the best solution quickly. Our team is highly specialized in taking care of skin conditions for our clients and logo design is completely out of our specialty and was consulted and completed for us by a hired third-party. We understand the urgency of the situation; and is working to quickly to provide appropriate answer to our clients, partners, community and to the movie and game producers and copyright holders of the artwork. We hope for your understanding that the situation is not an intentional infringement of copyright by Medcare Skin Centre.

We will continually update our progress on the website and social media presence. In the meantime, we will be monitoring continual feedback from the community in this email should you have any sharing with Medcare Skin Centre: [email protected]

Once again, we are very sorry and look forward to your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Medcare Skin Centre

Here’s their new logo now:

Okay, just kidding. They should be working with another designer for a new logo. And during this transition, their website is under construction.

Jokes aside, at least the company is taking efforts to undo any “damage”, unlike some individuals or corporations that like to defend, defend and keep on defending #justsaying.
